This hasn’t been the best of conferences but that might be because Recess Monkey is getting a little old these days and can’t stay up drinking late like he used to.
Nevertheless, the freebies seem cheaper and less clever than they were last year. The stands are less interactive. The speeches are more guarded due to an imminent election and the fringe meetings seem to be less diverse.
Perhaps the most entertaining moment was seeing the aesthetically notable Caroline Flint letting her hair down and getting groovy on the dance floor at the BAA party in the Midnight Blues Club. Although comment has been made before on Ms Flint’s looks, Recess Monkey hasn’t before seen her gyrating in a tight fitting cocktail dress - and most importantly - smiling. She does tend to look quite stern most of the time.
