Our cousins at www.w4mp.org are famed for their their diligence in avoiding offending anyone, particularly MPs and the palace authorities. So it is somewhat notable that W4MP is promoting the TUC’s “Work Your Proper Hours Day on Friday 25th and suggesting staffers send their employers an anonymous “boss-a-gram”, which will suggest to MPs that they “show their appreciation for everyone’s efforts by taking them out for a drink or laying on lunch”.
Notwithstanding the fact that some staffers would rather not be seen eating or drinking with their employers; and others are so hard working that they need to wind down over their lunch break rather than spend it with their boss; W4MP seems to have forgotton that most MPs are usually in their constituencies on a Friday. A quick trawl of the Sports & Social Club at 3.30pm on an average Friday will present you with a number of staffers who would be most affronted if you suggested they did their “proper hours” on the only day of the week when the boss isn’t peering over their shoulders.
