This week, Lynne Featherstone, the new MP for Hornsey & Wood Green, gave an interview to the BBC politics website. Although most of the interview was somewhat anodyne, Recess Monkey’s source noted that in response to the question “What can’t you live without?”, she responded, “My hairdresser”. If she can’t live without her hairdresser, then we’ll have a by-election soon in London if this snap is anything to go by.

Nice to know that, outside of the public eye where they are obliged to feign at least some degree of interest in things other than themselves, our MPs are concerned with… er… themselves.

Rather sexist remark, I thought. Notice you got a name check for a story in the Times “People” diary - Wednesday?

That’s just mean, Recess. I always preferred reading you to Guido, and still do, but there’s just not enough on here anymore.

Nyess. But what you have to remember is that Guido lives by that bastion of red-top tradition… “if in doubt, or lacking copy, make something up”. So much of what is written on his site in his usual conspiratorial nudge-nudge wink-wink manner is unmitigated tripe.

PS: Lynne Featherstone is the best thing to happen to this Parliament in donkeys elections, Recess!
