Opus Dave are probably putting on a new spiked girdle with joy, after Ming “Memorex” Campbell was elected Lib Dem leader. Sir Ming won chiefly on the basis that Simon Hughes’ supporters went for the candidate most likely to keel over in a few years, rather than opt for the 51-year-old Chris Huhne who might deprive Simon “The Straight Choice” Hughes of the chance to get thrashed again.
The upshot of this for young DC is that two old(er), politically established Scots may not be all that sexy for the swing voters in the key marginals of suburban England. If the James Blunt of centre-right politics can maneuver towards insurgency status in the election campaign, Sourpuss Brown and Memorex Campbell will have trouble projecting enough energy and vigour to compete. To say nothing of the fact every time Ming Campbell opens his mouth at the moment, it’s to ask terribly worthy but terribly dull questions about Iraq that have most people switching over to The Apprentice.
Archie Cameron may be attending his first big party tonight…

If you look more closely I think you’ll see that Hughes’s votes swung both ways pretty evenly….

Phew! Every time a Tory predicts my party’s imminent demise I know we must have done something right. Even a stopped clock is wrong twice a day, but when it comes to the Lib Dems’s fortunes, Tories unerringly err.

Yes, I suppose asking questions about Guantanamo Bay, torture and the killing fields of Iraq is “terribly dull” for a Labour supporter.

Yup, look how badly this boring new leader is doing already for the Lib Dems. They, er, won a recent by-election by overturning a comfortable Labour majority (shurly not?) while picking up votes from (interesting and) “decent Dave” at the same time….

The Tories are gonna have to win more than a few key marginals in suburban England.
People will see through Cameron.

Can we have semi-profiles of this blog’s writers?
It gives better context when we’re reading your posts.
I didn’t realise Recess Monkey was a Labour Supporter for ages. (I thought the red rosette was a flower!)
