Ming sting

Elder statesman

So now we hear the facts. Ming Campbell has stolen the Liberal Democrat Party. After campaigning for, and winning, the leadership of the party on a platform of “equidistance” from Labour and the Conservatives, he has now unveiled his agenda of radical right-wing policies, including the part-privatation of the post office.

In doing so, he has successfully destroyed the convention of unveiling your agenda before you ask people to vote for you.

I can only guess what might be on his literature at the next general election…

Trust me, I'm a Liberal

  1. Actually the ‘part-privatization’ plan (which actually has nothing to do with the Post Office, other than giving it masses of extra funding) was put before the party at the last conference, and was sent back for improvement. The policy has been on the agenda for months, and was democratically voted on by the membership.

The description ‘part-privatization’ is interesting …you could probably more accurately call it ‘part-workers-cooperative’… terribly right wing ;)

  2. radical right-wing? Steady on! I think there alot of Tofuism left in the lib dems yet

  3. Wishful thinking on the Monkey’s part methinks, after all the Minger taking the LibDems right and not left is the only thing that will stop the Tories creaming Labour at the next election.

  4. Democracy doesn’t scare me - but it works better when parties define what they believe and ask people to support them rather than when they define what they believe on the basis of what they think will garner a few more votes

But surely trying simultaneously to grab votes from both left and right by keeping his platform vague, Campbell will just be following in Kennedy’s footsteps… which is kind of what he said he’d do.
