You must download Chishti - The Movie, first publicised on the conservative home website. I don’t know what’s funnier - David Cameron looking very uncomfortable and uninterested and half-heartedly implying that he might get to fight a Labour marginal in Kent - or is it the bit where Chishti and Francis Maude are looking into each other’s eye longingly while gently massaging each other’s egos.

No, the funniest bit is when he describes himself as “working class” while affecting an accent worthy of the Royal Household.

Classic stuff.
I particularly liked when Maude said: “Ray won the campaign, but fortunately I won the elction”, followed by reassuring guffaws of laughter fron Chishti.
Or when he says he “satisfies the criteria” of being working class!
Of course you do mate, of course you do.
The Tories are welcome to him.

PS I hope they had filming permits to film all round the Norman Shaw Buildings - otherwise Serjeant at Arms will not be happy.
Anyone want to make an official complaint?

What a cock.
Monkey - you may well wish to avoid litigation but I say if I am wrong - LET HIM SUE!

Is it me or does it remind anyone of those before and after clips they used to show on “Blind Date”? First Francis reminisces about how he thought Ray was a bit of a nob at first, but after a few days on their paradise island (Kent) they found a great deal in common. I almost expected Ray to confirm that they did have a little kiss after a couple of Bacardi Breezers but that it didn’t go any further because his mother wouldn’t have approved.
Also, does anyone who is actually working class describe it as a “criterion”?
SM
(50% working class)

I watched the video and almost vomitted.
Chisti is an egregious toad and unctous insincerity oozes out of every pore.
Is there any truth in the rumour that he is the lovechild of Hughie Green?

I remember Raymondo from his NUS days. He certainly didn’t speak like that when he was husting the comrades from the platform of a dirty, sweaty Winter Gardens podium. In this video he seems he even posher than the delegates from the Alliance for Workers Liberty.

You are all being very nasty to this poor guy. I don’t know him so I can’t offer an opinion as to whether it’s deserved or otherwise but I don’t think people should necessarily be condemned for changing parties in their 20s for fuck’s sake. Many people’s political views are barely formed at that age. And it’s not as if moving from New Labour to New Conservatives these days entails a great ideological volte-face.
Paul Linford said this on March 16th, 2006 at 4:43 am
Paul, by my calculations he is 27 - he will have been able to vote for 9 nine years - I would have that would have been old enough to have a couple of political views….
But what on earth is he trying to become an MP for if he can’t even decide what his political views actually are. I realise that is a loaded comment though…
He’s not the first to go sideways to mvoe up (so to speak).

Scum - “ethnic” scum, but scum. And I would say the same if he had defected the other way. Or if he was white. Or green. Or purple. Get a fucking grip — a total tosser is NOT a good get for the Tory party. However desperate they are.

I think the most scary thing about this episode is the fact this twat was a candidate for Labour. Its says far more about how far removed the party is from its roots, and how Labour’s new stock of MPs are (not including yourself goodself Monkey) a bunch of careerist, clueless drones with little chance of connecting with older politicians, let alone the public. I despair, I really do.

I remember Ray Chishti from when we used to steward music festivals as a fundraising effort. We all had to do training beforehand, including a very simple first aid course.
He was the only one stupid enough to “kill” the dummy, despite two attempts, and not get full marks.
I suspect his efforts to resuscitate the Tories will be similarly idiotic.
Nick P said this on March 17th, 2006 at 4:08 am
Like Nick I also remember Mr Chishti from Future Stewarding at Reading 1999 and in fact did a shift with some of his friends from sixth form, who were all nice lads but not vaguely interested in politics. One of them accused him of sleeping with some girl who “half the facking Medway Towns have had” and then said “Oh yeah, we’re not supposed to say things like that here cos you wanna be an MP”, which he churlishly denied both. Anyhow, he was a total cock as he was one of the more uptight ’supervisers’.

Martinez said this on March 18th, 2006 at 10:09 pm
i a led to believe recess monkey has links to the labour party….i am astonished and upset that comments on this website relating to skin colour have been allowed. This only goes to show that labour is changing, and it is easy to see why ray is disillusioned with labour. Recess monkey sort it out!
Martinez said this on March 18th, 2006 at 10:40 pm
Martinez. The red rosette on the Recess Monkey logo is indeed a subtle hint of my party affiliation. Unlike Mr Chishti, I intend to remain a member of the party right up until the day they throw me out.
You may also wish to note that I am also from an asian background and have a very sensitive racism radar - and I’m pretty certain none of the comments are racist.
Ironically, Chishti has joined a party that is steeped in racism and homophobia and other petty bigotries.
I hope they make him feel as important as it takes to make him happy.
