The word on the street is that Bob Spink, MP for Castle Point and professional Yorkshireman has been deselected by his local party. With a majority of over 8,000, the Essex seat would be ideal for an aspiring, caring and compassionate Tory candidate, particularly one looking to commute from Kent.

Someone who wants people to give him a break doesn’t bail on his comrades when things get difficult. And anyone who wants a career in politics develops a thick skin and toughens up or they don’t survive.
Look at Sean Woodward, been taking an intermittent kicking for years now - but do you hear him bitching about it? No - and that’s what’s earning him respect after all this time. Keeping his head down and getting on with the job is how he’s getting over his defection.
I reckon it’ll be 15 years before Rehman lives this down - but that was his decision, not mine, and if he gets a safe Tory seat out of it then that should go some way to making him feel better. But I’m not pulling punches or deleting comments that attack him politically - I don’t even delete comments that attack me!
