The future of LibDem elections guru Lord Chris Wily Fox Rennard was thrown into doubt today after the publication of an exclusive Recess Monkey poll showing that 100% LibDem MPs ignore what he says and use their own common sense instead.
Recess Monkey asked 62 LibDem MPs, Have you or your constituency activists ever to your knowledge given children sweets in return for the delivery of leaflets?
22.6% of the Parliamentary Liberal Democrat Party responded, all of whom denied ever using the Freitag Method, though there were some tortuous caveats.
Our LibDem MPs said
I can certainly confirm that we have never given children sweets for the delivery of leaflets.
I have no knowledge of whether our activists get their kids to deliver leaflets for them. Kids these days would probably turn their nose up at sweets
To the best of my knowledge, No. Indeed, I would only trust known supporters and helpers, plus member of course, to deliver leaflets for me.
“Of course not - with so few NHS dentists in the constituency that would be grossly irresponsible.
To the best of my knowledge we have never done that.
I have frequently taken my own children delivering leaflets. For the younger ones that involves riding on my shoulders and visiting a shop at which sweets may or may not have been purchased.
I have given friends sweets when they have helped me deliver leaflets, but only as a thank you, not a payment (and not during the election period)
