Faced with continued criticism of his performance at Prime Minister’s Questions, Ming retreated once again to his home ground of foreign policy today, where he thinks he has ‘elder-statesman-hood’ and the respect of his colleagues.
But his capital there is swiftly running out. His two questions today can only be described as lame.
“Will the British troops be out of Iraq when the Prime Minister leaves office?”
“Will Guantanamo Bay be closed when the Prime Minister leaves office?”
Maybe Ming thought that by conflating Tony’s departure with the troops in Iraq he would be scoring two political points with one stone, but he fell flat on its face with it. It was simply far too easy for Tony to deflect by separating the issues, and then not answering either of them.
And what Ming thought he’d get out of the issue of Guantanamo - one of very few things Tony doesn’t get blamed for - I do not know, but it fell even flatter.
There are only 8 more sessions of PMQs before the summer recess and the annual backstabbing season of party conferences. How long before Ming is at the mercy of his party?
