In search of intellectual sustenance, Recess Monkey last night attended the Barry Amiel & Norman Melburn Trust Lecture at SOAS, given by Clare Short on “The Future of the Left”.
The quote of the evening came from the event’s Chair, Rodney Bickerstaffe, better known as the President of National Pensioners Convention and former General Secretary of UNISON, Britain’s largest trade union.
Rodney told the audience of assembled Marxists, Socialists and students, “I was contacted recently by the BBC and asked to say a piece to camera to be used on the day Margaret Thatcher dies - and I told them it would be my greatest pleasure to do so”.
So now he’s let the cat out of the bag that the Beeb is making Maggie’s obituary show, perhaps we should be inundating them with our opinions. Now where have I been keeping that bottle of bubbly?…

Bet that the institutionally anti Conservative scumbags at Al Beeb won’t go looking for Gordon’s implacable enemies to be a part of his obituary prog. Mind you by the time he goes hopefully the wildly biased BBC will have been broken up and flogged off as they so richly deserve.

Yes, I bought two bottles of champagne when I turned 18 - I opened the first when Enoch Powell died, and the second patiently awaits Thatcher’s descent. Mind you, I can’t help having this nagging suspicion that she died twenty years ago, and has been kept alive since on the blood of virgins from Conservative Future.

Time to dust down the grave dancing shoes. Rodney has been saying for 20 years, when Thatcher first referred to ‘the stakehoder society’…. “you hold her down, I’ll hold the stake”.

There are no virgins in Conservative Future!

She is the greatest Englishwoman, living or dead. I hope God has worked out a way to stay in charge when she arrives, rejuvenated. I still love the oldest joke about her dying (I am sure she does too). The Devil phones God and says “please take this Thatcher woman off my hands - admit her to Heaven.” God asks why. The Devil says “she’s only been down here a week and she’s closed three furnaces already!”

Not a surprise that the Beeb are putting together a program on an aged ex-PM (and given Tony’s state of ticker, they’ve probably got a tape or two ready in case of him popping his clogs as well).

You know I hope that when a member of your family dies, people will celebrate because you dont deserve anything less. It sickens me that people want to celebrate at another human beings death! You moan when you see terrorists cheer and chant when they have cut the head off someone and say its revolting and inhumane but this is basically what you are doing. It doesnt matter what the politics of someone is, they done their job and in this instance they were elected, by the people, for 11 years! She cannot of done that badly because lets face it, the only way labour got back in was by dropping socialism and changing its name. And i personnally will be mourning her death just like I would if it was a socialist or a marxist becaus at the end of the day they done what they believed in and thats good enough for me!

Under no circumstances would I celebrate the death of Margaret Thatcher. However, the commencement of an eternity of her burning in hell for the pain and suffering she caused to millions might be worthy of note.
I would like to hear her say sorry before she goes.
