The photo above has been getting quite a lot of coverage in recent days. But who’s that character with the jumper around his waist? Looks to me like a very well known Elvis impersonator, known on these pages only as “Gutbuster”, named after a breakfast special in a certain Brighton greasy spoon.
At least that explains why he didn’t manage to get to the Karaoke on Thursday…

Only flaw being that:
a) It doesn’t look at all like him
and
b) He was apparently in the swimming pool at the time.

Have to say that I’m becoming increasingly disappointed with the Recess readership; an item on how poorly paid you all think you are gets 35 comments and yet the meat and two veg of the site, the political piss taking, only gets one or two. Tends to make you all look self obsessed and money orientated you know, rather like Cherie is and you want to believe the Tories are.

…maybe I should write more about how badly paid/treated staffers are…?
Recess Monkey said this on May 31st, 2006 at 6:51 pm
But will that be funny or at least suitably caustic though Recess?
matt said this on May 31st, 2006 at 7:45 pm
Is is entirely plausible, Matt, that Recess’s posts are so original and full of humour that they simply do not need to be boosted by further comments.
Either that or we don’t want to be seen to be encouraging the young man’s mischief-making.

Some threads are more controversial for the readership than others - we can’t help that the ones that generate comments are the ones you consider to be comparatively banal
As a reader and commenter, it is up to you to do your bit on the other ones I guess!
I agree with the Cucumber - some posts are humourous, self-explanatory and need no comment (especially Beau Bo D’Or’s excellent photoshop work) whilst others need debate, feedback and suggestions (e.g. 101 uses for a John Prescott).

Gutbuster..my ass.
Howler is the monkey who has light ale on his cornflakes. A demonstration of this will be provided at the Labour Party conference, time and date to be arranged !
(and on occasions Newcastle Brown)

It is Gutbuster, I recognise the jumper round that extremely identifiable waist, and then there’s the fact he says it’s him…
Eskimo Nell said this on June 2nd, 2006 at 10:44 am
Er, unless he was lying to me, Gutbuster said it wasn’t him. As i said, he says he was in the swimming pool at the time.

He admitted it to me too

That’s Christos Karaolis, not sure if this is the gutbuster you mean.
Kipling said this on June 3rd, 2006 at 10:48 pm
Christos Karaolis it is. Engaged to actress/model Suraya Jina.
Ho ho said this on June 7th, 2006 at 8:37 am
Does anyone have any photos of the Karaolis-Jina wedding festivities? Reports tell of a blow-out in Tel Aviv, with a yarmulke-wearing Prescott as guest of honour.
