I have met CS half a dozen times in the last year and I have to say she is more like Marvin the paranoid robot than a dept pm. I say better the devil you know - for now! Although I am surprised that Ruth Kelly’s name is not on the list.

I am disappointed with the short sightedness of some on this site. Surely the talent of Ruth Kelly is obvious: competent, straight-forward, intelligent, passionate and an excellent orator (also a bit of a stunner) - tut tut to those who criticise.

I was brought up a Catholic, and members of Opus Dei scare me. They are pre-vatican two nutters in denial; illiberal, ignorant and cult like. The late Cardinal Hume, a close friend of Blair, banned them from running parishes in England. I wonder what he would think if he saw that Blair has one in the cabinet. They like hurting themselves for gods sake. I mean, i’m all for bondage for sexual pleasure, but for god..nah.

Ruth Kelly does in fact have all of the qualities required to be a suitable follow on from fatty Two Jags. Like him she is of questionable competence and owes her first alliegence not to the Country , Government or her Party but to another rather secretive group.
All that this really proves though is the dearth of genuine talent and ability within the Labour Cabinet, probably because both Blair and Brown have ensured anyone truly talented has been seen off as too much of a possible threat to them.

I doubt it. Most of the Short voters are Tories wanting a laugh. You have to admit it would be very funny, but Short is finished with top level politics.
