It’s been a joy watching the Conservatives harming their image in the media over the last few days, with Uncle Dave getting a very rough ride from Jonathan Ross of all people, almost dissected Paxman-style to the amusement of the audience. There was also the comedy moment of the week on Question Time, with Oliver Letwin’s statement that the Tories are now a credible party for government met with a hearty chortle from the audience (watch it here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/question_time/default.stm about 31 minutes in).
Charlie Kennedy’s performance was a great relief on QT also, with him still being the best future leader the Lib Dems could hope for. His lack of a straight answer to the “Are you now teetotal?” was a tad worrying though…

The crack about the Blair-like hand gestures was best. Clearly Cameron has studied miles of footage of Blair and practised in front of a mirror.

What do you expect from a LibDem? They think the Pope ***** in the woods.

CK was great, but lets not pretend that Cameron’s appearance on Jonathan Ross’s show was anything other than competent at worst, at best a PR masterstroke. It’s done him no damage whatsoever, and introduced him to an audience that otherwise avoids politics like the plague. Can’t exactly see Ming on Woss’s prime time show, can you? Richard and Judy, perhaps.

Yes, its called the real world, and thats why Uncle Dave had so much trouble answering the questions about drug policy thrown at him by Ross. How his performance can be seen as a PR masterstroke astonishes me! The guy never looked comfortable in the interview or backstage, and got hit hard by a lot of the questions put to him.

Yeah, right. Because in the “real world” that’s the sort of questions a Jonathan Ross audience would be asking.
Why are LibDems so damn weird?

I’m reminded of that old chestnut of Dr Johnson’s (originally about women preachers) - “Like a dog walking on his hinder legs, it is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all.â€
