Recess Monkey has discovered the Tories cunning tactical ploy for securing the last 640 votes they desperately needed to win in Bromley.
They sent Rehman Chishti to Wales to get him as far away as possible from South East London.

So it was him that won Blaenau Gwent then was it? Doesn’t matter how you try to spin this yesterday was a bigger disaster for the red team than it was for anyone else, in fact I think the result goes Tories 1 Labour 0.

really? i guess the tories are over the moon that they got scarily close to losing a very, very safe seat to a Lib Dem. Blaenau Gwent is a bit of an anomaly - wasn’t that whole problem sparked by AWS rather than any other one factor? What a surprise that the Government doesn’t win by-elections.

Matt, I have a strict policy not to allow excessively abusive comments and while you are in no danger of breaching this policy, you are in danger of inciting others to do so.

Both the AM and MP in Blaenau Gwent are Independents.

Post of the week goes to King Mike for THE most obvious statement! Really?! Both Independents! Wow! It’s like it was just before the election isn’t it!

bornin84 - I think King Mike was pointing out that matt’s comment (”So it was him that won Blaenau Gwent then was it?”) could be read as implying that the Tories won Blaenau Gwent.

FYI recess monkey my ’sources’ tell me that Ray spent his time 50:50 in Wales and Bromley. Also Ray overturned a 300 majority to become councillor for Gillingham North from the Lib Dems…..As your website has rightly pointed out it was the underhand Lib Dems in Bromley that influenced the result.

I love the fact that the Tories are moaning about “underhand” Lib Dem tactics. All parties are guilty: the Tory campaign in Cheadle was very negative and insensitive; and I know of a Labour MP who called voters from her Parliamentary office and told them that their local Green candidate wanted to open a brothel on their street! Now that is underhand….

But never as underhand as the fib dems. In 2005 the tories Campaign with honour here in Cornwall , much to the credit. I wish she similar thing could be said of the Liberal Democrats who fought the dirtiest campaign were have ever seen. And there have seen a few.

Dirty campaigning can often just be down to the individuals who are running a particular campaign rather then their party but there does seem to be more instances of nasty and untrue campaigning from the LibDems than the two other major parties. And then of course they are the only party to have enshrined in a publication for activists the recommendation to lie, claim crdit falsely and to launch personal attacks on opponents.

Matt.. I wish this was true.the Lib dems are concistanly dirty.thats why thair knone as FIB DEMS…I’m very hapy with robust campaigning, but thay take the piss..
But thay do lie, claim crdit falsely and launch personal attacks on opponents . I have been a vitcim of it.

Let’s face it the Tories invented sleazy campaign tactics. Only recently in local elections in Exeter, the Tory team completely fabricated council attendance figures. They routinely misrepresent figures and spread complete falsehoods about competitors. To hear poor old Tories moaning about those hard playing liberals makes my heart ache.
