APG Stampede

The summer recess is almost upon us, and it heralds a last-ditch rush to fit in all the work that should have been done months ago. The most obvious evidence of this is the panic arranging of Annual General Meetings for All Party Groups - because if you don’t hold an AGM, your All Party Group won’t be officially recognised on the Register.

Following the election last year (after which all APGs were technically disolved), almost all APGs registered their existence between May and the end of July, and so one year on they need to be re-registered now. This had been forgotten by most, until the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards helpfully sent round ‘reminder’ letters recently to the group secretaries…

And so the All-Party Whip for next week shows a staggering 80 All Party Group AGMs, and that doesn’t include inaugural meetings for some new APGs. If you were wondering why you can’t book a conference room anywhere on the Parliamentary Estate at the moment, now you know.

The APG administered by Red Tamarin obviously got themselves organised months ago…ahem…
