Dude, Where’s My Constituency? (Identity Fraud III)

It appears that the screw-ups on membership cards are just one example of deeper problems within the party administration.

A Labour backbencher yesterday received a letter from the party with their forms for re-selection. Today a new letter turned up to apologise for getting the name of the CLP wrong on the form, and blaming it on database errors.

Actually the details on the first letter were accurate, but it’s a sad state of affairs when the party can’t guarantee getting the details of their MPs correct…

  1. Well if the Labour Party’s database is anything to do with either EDS or Capita, with their long history of cocking up databses and IT for various public bodies, then it isn’t really any surprise is it?

  2. “A Labour backbencher yesterday received a letter from the party with their forms for re-selection.”

when will reselection process start, btw?

The tories are also having problems to update their website with new candidates selected because commercial postcode-matching datasets are not yet available for the new boundaries (or at least it’s what they claim)

  3. Andrea - I think it varies geographically. It is largely dependent (I believe) on the Regional party organisation - they are responsible for managing the selection procedures, and deciding (along with the NEC) whether to impose All Women Shortlists.

Whilst all sitting MPs have already been sounded out informally about whether they are going to stand again, most seats seem to be officially gearing up now. I’d expect that before Christmas a fair number of seats will have been finalised.

I believe that the process is happening at a pace, just in case an early handover and election takes place.

  4. Red Tamarin, many thanks.

IIRC last time most reselection took place in 2003, so it seems they’re moving faster this time…probably as you said just in case an early handover and election takes place.
