Natural Government

On the same day the Guardian reveals that Defra are searching for £200m worth of cuts, the new Strategic Direction 2006-2009 document from Natural England arrives in MP’s postbags - on paper and with lots of beautiful colour photos, naturally.

How much of the strategy will survive once an estimated £12m has been cut from Nature England’s budget remains to be seen, but Red Tamarin has one very effective cost-cutting measure to propose:

Don’t send MPs two copies of the same damn report! In fact, don’t send it at all - MPs aren’t ever going to read it!

This isn’t the first time that a Defra agency has been so environmentally inept as to send out two copies of the same document in two separate envelopes, when it could just as easily be read online.

One Response to “Natural Government”

  1. Perhaps DEFRA might wish to refresh their memories regarding the Govt’s E-Government agenda which is specifically intended to reduce this sort of environmentally damaging resource waste by government at all levels. They ought to have some record of this initiative since they were one of the original sponsoring govts depts for it.
