Far be it for me to be pedantic, but I don’t think anyone’s been too bothered about Sidewinders, short-range IR air-to-air missiles, passing through Scottish airports…
Pedantic? ….I’m sure that Beuo Bo lifted a generic picture from the net… But it’s interesting to speculate just what is travelling through Prestwick at the moment. It would be unlikely that its iron bombs, as they are far too heavy to carry in an aircraft in any meaningful quantity. I would speculate that they are clip on paveway attachments for conventional 500 pound bombs, or Mark 84 laser-guided missiles. Both of these can be guided directly from the drop aircraft or a MEVE unmanned aircraft. Also these weapons can be guided on to their target by a small laser reflecting “puck” which can be dropped on to its target manually by special forces. It would be unthinkable that Israel does not have this capability and that it doesn’t have undercover Special forces dropping off pucks on that which it thinks a are appropriate targets suitable for later destruction. It is not beyond reason that Hizbollah are well awhere of this action and are actively seeking the dropped off pucks and placing them so that they will cause maximum collateral damage to suit their own purposes. This practice was used in Bosnia during the air campaign there.
