You too can experience profiling

TV production company Tiger Aspect is developing a new show based on “The Monastery”, set in a Sufi influenced retreat in Spain. They’re looking for 5-6 non-muslims (infidels?) to go to the retreat - probably in September - to try to learn more about the essence of Islam.

In short, it’s like Big Brother without the boobs.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in participating contact Gabe Solomon of Tiger Aspect productions gabesolomon@tigeraspect.co.uk ASAP. But don’t expect to be allowed onto the plane home after they’ve finished filming.

  1. Be very interesting to see them get someone Jewish on this, but I’ll bet they’d turn anyone of that faith down.

  2. To my knowledge, Matt, Tiger Aspect has no history of anti-semitism

  3. I’m not at all suggesting that they have, but this is an interesting question in the times in which we now live.

  4. Dya reckon theyd let em use my ayotollah nomenclemture if i got thru?

  5. Matt, you said, “I bet they’d turn someone of [Jewish] faith down.”

Yet you’re not saying that you think Tiger Aspect is anti-semitic?

What are you saying then Matt?

  6. Actually, I think you can pretty much guarantee there will be at least one Jew in the show as it’ll make for better TV.

  7. I took part in the last ‘religious documentary’ made by the BBC, and having entered in good faith (no pun intended) and finding the whole experience incredibly profound and moving, I discovered the joys of media manipulation. The programme presented my journey in such a way I hardly recognised it, following an agenda that ignored much of what I was about, in order to present their idea of the ‘atheist’. Whilst I would never forego the importance of the spiritual and personal journey I took, I have serious misgivings about the repeat of this exercise. I only hope that the people taking part do not find themselves in the same position, having to read/listen to vile judgements in the national media. My deepest surprise has been to witness how easily people buy into the ‘truth’ they are being given. Having entered the experience with an open heart and trusting the people making the programme, I discovered with biter aftertaste, that they were less interested in the reality of my reason for being there and the journey I took (I lost my child - a fact they removed completely, despite it being the reason I was there), and more interested in creating a one dimensional caricature that would fit their agenda. My hope is they do not repeat the same trick again.
