The colour of love

I meant to write this as soon as I saw it but forgot. The Times ran this piece about breeding chameleons.

Blue with arousal

A pair of chameleons named Charles and Camilla have astonished their owner by turning blue together and producing 55 live offspring.

The couple are now the proud parents of an entire royal family of inch-long reptiles that are impossible to tell apart because, unlike adult chameleons, they are all the same colour.

Unfortunately their parents are usually kept apart because they fight. But their owner, Hayden Crawford, 27, a car salesman from Poole, Dorset, took the chance of reuniting them when they turned blue, showing that they wanted to mate. The love affair lasted only two days before Camilla turned violent.

Surely they mean “violet”? Seems amusing to me that chameleons only turn blue when they’re horny. Someone tell Dave.

  1. Well I guess that kind of explainms that permanent blue tinge that John Prescott always seems to have about him. I had thought that it was either high blood pressure or the effects of a hangover, but now we know the truth!

  2. 55 offspring, and not a looker among ‘em.

On a royal note, I notice Recess Monkey gets a mention on the back page of the latest edition of Republic’s (the Campaign for an Elected Head of State) member magazine (http://www.republic.org.uk/imagine/copies/summer2006.pdf).

Understandably you don’t get as high a billing as Claire Rayner though.

  3. it’s disgusting how they have put Claire Rayner in a wheelchair. She should stand up for herself
