Jews need not apply

At 7pm this evening, Conservative Future (CFUK) meets for its London hustings for its election for Chairman. The meeting will take place at Tory HQ in Victoria Street.

It’s rather unfair I think for them to hold such an important event on the Sabbath, when Jewish members will not be able to take part. It’s not surprising then that one candidate is said to have been overheard in a West End pub declaiming, “I’m so sound, I’d send myself back!”.

However, a source formerly close to the outgoing Prime Minister informs me that one wannabe Chairman, Mark Clarke (pictured) has a novel way of recruiting young Tories. While at Durham University, he defected to the uni Labour Club, just long enough to seduce a young socialist and defect back again… with her.

However, given that only 500 CFUKers managed to vote in last year’s election, he’s going to have his work cut out to recruit the many thousands that the hierachy would like to see. I suggest Brent East might be a fruitful early recruitment ground.

  1. as far as I can see, you’ve made some rather serious accusations without telling us who your sources are; perhaps in future if you are going to be so flippant with someone’s reputation you would do us all the courtesy of doing your research first.

  2. And Clarke’s anonymous foot soldiers strike again. Half of CF has heard the “so sound he’d send himself back” quote said by said candidate. Doesn’t take much research to dig that up. As for the Durham accusations presumably Recess has pretty good contacts in the Labour Party - better than those from CF anyway.

  3. If the people making these accusations won’t come forward and do so in public, then these contemptuous remarks must be viewed with the upmost scepticism and suspicion.
Perhaps these scurrelous rumour mongerers fear the Libel laws?

  4. perhaps you could also explain why you have drawn a link between comments about CCHQ’s attitude to the Sabbath, and Clarke’s university love life?

  5. CF stories are usually so boring and tame that you really need two to make something worth reading. How did friday go?

  6. Wow - all these rumours coming out about Mark… whats wrong? Worried that CF may be lead by someone who will do something positive with it use it as a tool to win back more seats!!

Mark is one of the most talented young politicians around - all these slurs on his character just shows how he has you rattled.

It is interesting to see that there are not similar stories attacking the frumpy caroline and the abusive andrew.

  7. I wanted to correct some serious inaccuracies in your report. I hope you do not begrudge me a proper right of reply.

    1. I have never been a member of the Labour Party or of a University Labour Club. I have never even attended a Labour event. Ex Chairmen of Durham Uni Conservatives and Area Chairmen from my years can attest to this. Your defection story is nonsense.

    2. I did indeed date for over two years a woman who had joined the Uni Labour Club in her Freshers Week. I was introduced to her by the Conservative Uni Chairman at a Union event. She is also willing to attest to this.

    3. Personally I have never used the phraseology or sentiment, “I’m so sound, I’d send myself back.”. As someone from a mixed Caribbean/British background who has experienced racism, I find it deeply offensive. I doubt one of my opponents would have made such a comment either. Given that another blog referred to me as a ‘chichi communist’ it seems like my opponents can’t quite get their stories straight!

    4. Although not privy to the decision to hold a hustings on a Friday, there was clearly no anti Jewish sentiment. Just as I doubt that Labour students holding their last conference on a Sunday shows any anti Christian sentiment. The other CF national hustings was also on a Saturday. I am proud also to be an active member of the Conservative Friends of Israel. They enjoy a large measure of support in CF circles and we even ran a joint event together this year.

Many thanks - I enjoy your blog. You keep us honest - I hope you don’t mind me keeping you honest on this occasion.

  8. Haha how you Conservatives amuse me! Quite clearly this has you rattled as you have thrown you have released the likes of Councillor Robert-John Tasker to ‘intimidate’ Recess monkey. This pathetic attempt really just shows how pathetic the tories are these days. You have humiliated yourself, you don’t need recess to do it for you.

  9. Mark, very pleased you could comment and clear up my erroneous gossip dissemination.

Though - being as vehemently anti-racist as you are - why are you a Conservative Party member? Where do you stand on immigration for example?

  10. Monkey, I have read your blog pretty much since the beginning and thoroughly enjoyed it. Recently, you have been criticised for various shoddy things. I can see why; for instance why do you always persist in claiming the Tories are racist? Dave has recently stated that Thatcher was wrong about South Africa and apartheid, basically she was wrong and he (Mandela) was right. So there. Case shut and point proven.
It’s not like Dave spends his holidays running over brown people, is it?

  11. Recess Monkey:”Though - being as vehemently anti-racist as you are - why are you a Conservative Party member?”

Very droll, I can’t answer for Mark Clarke, but I wonder if you dare to ask the same question of every black and Asian Tory. They would, I presume, find it very patronising.

“Where do you stand on immigration for example?” Did you ask the same question of John Reid, the Home Secretary, when he said “We have to get away from this daft so-called politically correct notion that anybody who wants to talk about immigration is somehow a racist.”

As a libertarian Tory, I don’t agree with my leadership’s limit on immigration stance, because I believe in the free movement of labour and choice of private residence, but the muckraking accusation that the party leadership’s stance is based on racist motives is akin to schoolboy politics.

  12. Is it just me or does anyone find this story ammazingly funny!?!

Firstly, I have no idea why Retard Donkey carried this story. With everything else going on I’d have thought you’d have more gossip from the big game.

Secondly, how self-important are these guys from CFUK!?! I agree with Toryboy watch - these CFUKers are so bloody self-absorbed that they’re going to respond to comments on a two-bit blog like this one as it they were allegations published in a national newspaper in the alternate universe where they stand a chance of being an MP.

CFUK has to represent the largest group of people with their heads up their own arses since the creation of New Labour. Bring back the old Tory Party - at least they were proud they were racist!

  13. Your accussations against Mark Clarke are simply not true. I was the Chairman of the Durham University Conservatives when Mark was Treasurer. He was never a member of the Durham Labour Club. When I graduated he took over as Chairman of the University Conservatives. I was the person who introduced him to his then girlfriend, who was a member of the Labour club.

I have also found that Mark has never treated anyone differently, regardless of race, religion and background.

I have voted for Mark in the CF elections and I hope he wins.

  14. You CF guys are really long winded, I thought Labour Students were bad, but you guys take the cake.

  15. This is the most outrageous bucketful of erroneous gossip dissemination I have ever come across, Mr Hilton. You should go into journalism.

    All the best.
