The leadership turmoil in the Labour Party seems to have spilled over into the union movement according to Recess Monkey sources at the TUC in Brighton this week.
Amicus General Secretary Derek Simpson and TGWU General Secretary Tony Woodley were spotted in the foyer of the Grand Hotel having a stand up row, culminating in Woodley’s declamation to Simpson (and I quote), “You’re a fucking cunt”.
Evidently, the two union bigwigs had agreed a deal not to back any Labour Party leadership contenders until some concessions had been promised. Woodley’s outburst stems from seeing an embargoed press release from Simpson explicitly backing Brown.
However, Simpson was on BBC news this morning quite clearly equivocating about his support for Brown. Perhaps he had a change of heart?

I agree with Woodley here. There is no way the union should back Brown until there are some promises over PFIa in the health service.
