Recess monkey happened to be looking at the website of lone Tory MP and Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, David Mundell, when I came across the picture above of him meeting the Princess Royal, Princess Anne.
While I’m no expert on royal protocol, I can’t help thinking that his mac singularly failed to disguise the extent to which he was obviously swollen with pride as the Princess grasped him firmly.
On a related note, I hear that the Leader of the Conservatives in Holyrood, Annabel Goldie, is still seething at not being allowed to speak at Tory Party Conference. Despite leading a group of 17 MSPs, she was bounced off the speaking rota in favour of Mundell, who leads a group of one Scottish MP and one trouser snake.

Even more puzzlingly — what’s Alan Coren doing there?

Of course Annabel Goldie was bounced off the platform at the Tory party conference, she is totally off message in the Cameroonie new world. So that’s two things that the Tories have learned from New Labour then; muzzling the dissenters and the proper erect posture with which to greet Royalty.
