The website ConservativeHome can’t be knocked for it’s ability to engage the Tory grassroots. I was most interested in this piece on the Tory target seats.
Particularly interesting, as ever, are the comments.
I hope that “A-lister” Ali Miraj will seek re-selection in Watford. He needs to sort the out his mess from last year - third in a seat that we lost in 1997.
Posted by: TFA Tory | October 06, 2006 at 18:58Let’s be brutally frank… NOBODY with the name Ali Miraj is going to be elected in Watford. That might not be PC, and it might well reflect badly on the good burghers of Watford, but it’s true..!

So will the Tories have a brown candidate in Watford or not? What does Francis Maude’s Interracial Adviser Rehman Chishti have to say about this?
editor[at]recessmonkey.com

Obviously they have never been to Watford where 21% are neither white or European!

But then RM is racist in my book…do I need to go back into the RM archives. I don’t really want to as its wasting my day!
Martinez said this on October 9th, 2006 at 5:20 pm
What’s that got to do with it? I’m not trying to be funny, but race isn’t necessarily less of a factor in “multi-racial” areas. Also, the fact is he got 29.6% in a five-horse race. It must be some sort of record to come third in a seat with that percentage of the vote. I like Ali Miraj. Standing for a second time will give him some advantages. I say persist with him.

“I hope that “A-lister†Ali Miraj will seek re-selection in Watford. He needs to sort the out his mess from last year - third in a seat that we lost in 1997.”
If he did such a mess, why did that poster want him reselected?! It doesn’t sound a cunning plan.
Andrea said this on October 9th, 2006 at 5:41 pm
My comment was not racist. Any reasonable person could see that.
Ali Miraj’s lamentable electoral performance did not merit a place on the A-list (which is full of poor electoral performers and those who have not fought a Parliamentary election). Only the best candidates should be on the A list. I merely suggested that Mr Miraj should stand again in Watford again, build upon his existing profile and improve his performance.
It is Recess Monkey who is the racist. He sees racism where it does not exist or is accusing me of racism for political advantage. He should be ashamed of himself.

I think he was referring to Chrissie, and not you.
Ade B said this on October 9th, 2006 at 10:10 pm
I am not a racist and so sure am I that I will refer to him as “Mr” at every opportunity. Prick.
Like the opposite to Spartacus here. “I’m not a racist”. “No, I’m not a racist.”
Mr Brown said this on October 9th, 2006 at 10:17 pm
So if I were to post something racist here, would it make the Labour party racist? No more, I suspect, than racist graffiti in a pub toilet makes the landlord a racist. Come on RM - picking on comments from randoms in an unmoderated blog is hardly the quality stuff we’ve come to expect!
prentiz said this on October 9th, 2006 at 10:34 pm
Arguable the conservatives selection procedure is far better than Labours which does discriminate against men of colour.
archbold said this on October 9th, 2006 at 10:42 pm
How do you know it was a Tory who left the message?
Iain Dale’s blog has loads of terrible Lib Dems leaving comments!
dave said this on October 9th, 2006 at 11:21 pm
ConservativeHome is not unmoderated. Chrissy’s was the comment to which I referred - TFA Tory comment was there as relevant context.
However, you are both Tories ergo racists at some level, either actively or through the ignorant acceptance of your comrades’ prejudices. Exhibit 1 of my evidence for this is the 2005 Tory election campaign (mastermind, D Cameron esq.)
If you don’t like it, sod off and read someone else’s blog
Recess Monkey said this on October 9th, 2006 at 11:30 pm
I am a libertarian and find your “ergo racists” allegation to be offensive. Would you call Guido a racist? I think not.
Recess Monkey uses the old smear tactic of guilt by association. He is a pathetic little wanker and can go fuck himself.

Hello. I am a tory and I hate browns.
John said this on October 10th, 2006 at 9:51 am
Guido’s not a Tory - TFA, when the Tories make any real effort at all at stamping out bifotry in their ranks I will have some respect for them.
Recess Monkey said this on October 10th, 2006 at 10:35 am
I suppose that it can be argued that Chrissie was saying that Watford voters are racist more than himself/herself
Andrea said this on October 10th, 2006 at 1:29 pm
Guido not a Tory? Didn’t see him at Labour or Lib Dem conferences, despite their wooing of bloggers.
Frank Dobson fan said this on October 10th, 2006 at 2:04 pm
Oh come on Recess the Labour Party is a riddled with racists as any other party is in truth. For example all those deeply anti Asian West Midlands CLPs or the downright racist anti Jewish attitudes of so many within Labour, Ken Livingstone for example. For that matter by your standards the Beau Bo D’Or item above targetting only the Jew involved in Labour’s illegal sale of honours fiasco could be said to be racist since it doesn’t attack the non Jews involved.Labour’s anti racism is a self perpetuating myth since it is entirely selective. Now can we get back to the humorous stuff please.
Oh and BTW Frank Dobson fan is probably right since Guido was most certainly at the Tory Party conference, I know ‘cos I talked to him there for some time. He was completely pissed, which is probably why he bothered to talk to me.

Racist comments have been allowed to remain on this blog as well in the past
Martinez said this on October 10th, 2006 at 5:05 pm
I met Guido (whom I have known for over 20 years) at Bournemouth too. His media pass gave his ID as Guido Fawkes rather than his real name. You don’t get that preferential treatment without official approval from CCHQ. Recess Monkey is a deluded and sad little tosser.
TFA Tory said this on October 10th, 2006 at 5:29 pm
TFA #19, it’s called having information on Maude’s activities…and then using it to secure a pass to conference…

Recess Monkey has form for making such unsubstiated claims and generalisations … and he still wants people to treat him seriously as a PPC. The next time he stands for election, his opponents should alert the voters about all the petty muckraking (on very flimsy stuff) this bloke gets up to. I dislike Labour’s politics, but I like quite a few Labourites. You, Alex, are not of them.
BTW, can you truely say there are no racists in the Labour party whatsoever, especially considering that the BNP gets most of its votes from disillusioned Labour voters?
Heyhey said this on October 10th, 2006 at 9:29 pm
I thought ConHome was moderated?
Smugbear said this on October 10th, 2006 at 11:00 pm
No, there are racists, sexists and homophobes in the party - but they know that if they speak openly, they’ll get kicked out - as opposed to the tory party where it’s OK to say that people like Ashley Crossley should be stuffed in a wheelie bin and pissed on because they’re gay.
The BNP pinches more votes from Labour than the Tories because racists don’t have to switch parties if they are Tory voters. The Tory party has made no effort in my memory to counter bigots since IDS Told Monday Club member MPs that they had to leave the club if they wanted to retain the Tory Whip.
Can anyone think of anything else the tories have done in this regard?
Recess Monkey said this on October 10th, 2006 at 11:56 pm
I agree with HeyHey’s comments about RM allowing racist comments on this website.
Martinez said this on October 11th, 2006 at 9:19 am
Actually Recess you are wrong to say that Labour party racists don’t speak out or they’ll be thrown out. The evidence is very clearly otherwise in terms of blatant anti semitic remarks by Labour members, Ken Livingstone for one. Also the same in the LibDems who seemingly promote their antisemites to the House of Lords; Jenny Tonge. I say again it is a myth that the Labour party membership are genuinely any less racist that the other political parties and for that matter the persistence of Labour in treating with blatantly racist Islamic groups, MPACUK for example, also puts the lie to your assertion.
matt said this on October 11th, 2006 at 1:59 pm
I think I’m on fairly safe ground in saying that Chisti wouldn’t be on the A list if he was white. Was that your objection to him, RM?
Praguetory said this on October 11th, 2006 at 11:09 pm
I think Chishti’s inclusion on the A List is nothing to do with his colour. I think he’s a treacherous, conniving back-stabber, happy to dedicate the rest of his life to screwing the poor - and these are exactly the reasons why he was so right for the Tory A List
Recess Monkey said this on October 12th, 2006 at 10:43 am
What made me laugh about Chisti’s defection was Iain Dale’s claim that he’d heard Labour were planning big things for him. Like what exactly? As a PPC he was relatively unknown and most people had only ever encountered him in Labour Students as a Labour Club Chair, hardly a rising star.
Frank Dobson fan said this on October 12th, 2006 at 10:50 am
RM has allowed racist comments on this website- hardly a good image for a moderated website, for the labour party. Cries about other website are hypocritical…get your house in order RM.

Hello, earth calling planet “Activist”.
Speaking as someone who had the opportunity to vote for Ali Miraj but didn’t, it’s no suprise to me that he’s popped up on the Tory A list. Not voting for him had nothing to do with his name by the way, much to do with the blue rosette he sported. His vote held up, even though the Tories are weak locally. We find that we are on the wrong end of a Lib-Dem paper mountain at election times. The Liberals could have won in 2005 but for the poor choice of candidate. The same poor candidate will probably win in the future because the Lib-Dems sense blood and the streets team with their supporters if there is a sniff of a vote going on. The situation is that the incumbent MP has her head firmly stuck up Mr Blair’s nether regions and sheds votes like confetti.
Watford’s “good burghers” have a strong habit of voting in an MP who is in the majority party. If any of my comments here made sense, I seem to be predicting the next government be Lib Dem. Heaven forbid!
Lobster Blogster said this on October 13th, 2006 at 1:16 am
Medway Conservative Councillor Paul Francis appeared on a recent edition of the BBC South East Politics Show when he suggested the best way to become a Tory candidate was to have a leg chopped off, have darker skin and be gay.
This from a man who welcomed Rehman Chishti as a defector from Labour to become a Conservative Councillor.
Hypocrisy or what?
