Iain Dale’s got his Basildon MPs mixed up.
Iain accused MP Angela Smith of seeking to unseat Andrew Mackinlay to take on his healthier majority via a chicken run.
The only Basildon MP I know to have done a Chicken run is Tory David Amess. Perhaps Iain is a little confused.
Incidentally, I can’t see him retiring at this point while he is being tipped to be the next Speaker of the Commons.

Why would Ian be wrong? Angela Smith is losing a good chunk of her constituency next time in boundary changes, making her chance of holding BAsildon almost non existent… Whether she could unseat Mackinley is another matter though…

Iain Dale’s wrong because a) Angela Smith has said she’s goign to apply for selection for South Basildon & East Thurrock and b) Labour MPs aren’t allowed on a cicken run - they (quite rightly) have to stay and fight.
