Guido Fawkes, he may be overbearing and self-obsessed - but I can’t deny he’s entertaining. One of his best traits is his willingness to be outrageous in a way that can only be pulled off by only someone with no desire for a political career. Note how Iain Dale has become quite tame since he got on the Tory A List (second tranche). Likewise, even Recess Monkey imagines what these words will sound like, if repeated back in a parliamentary selection meeting.
However, on this occasion I believe Mr Fawkes has gone too far. He suggests that the news of Gordon Brown’s son’s medical condition was released specifically to overshadow some bad news relating to the Chancellor.
Am I the only person out here who thinks this is not only profoundly unlikely but a bit sick too?

Why?
“A good day to bury bad news”
Twin Towers and a Govt spin doctor.
After that episode, Guido’s suggestion fits the past behaviour.

from where I am sitting, it is prfoundly unlikely. and I do think the suggestion a bit sick.

RecessMonkey, right now I’m remembering a conversation I had with you on Grays Inns Road about what being a parent meant.

It’s the battle of the two children - no, it’s not sick, it’s entirely in character

Shoulder to shoulder with you recess. Guido’s a rich, fat, talentless tosser (arf!) with a questionable obsession with young women, whose only contribution to this world is showing the Tories up to be the cynical areswipes that they are. Check out the comments and tell me that they’ve changed.
He’s a nauseating old man, nothing else. Just ignore him like everyone else; afterall, if he was that good, why haven’t the offers from TV rolling in? Instead he is confined to the woeful (no offence) “The Knives Are Out” and “Doughty Street”, the political equivalent of shouting at yourself on street corners.

Whatever. But just one point, Guido doesn’t do TV and that includes Doughty Street. As most producer/researchers will tell you having turned down just about every current affairs programme going.
Not a Tory, and I’m younger than Cameron and Milibland. But you are right about the obssession with young woman etc.
Guido Fawkes said this on December 2nd, 2006 at 1:22 am
Guido is entirely correct. Brown knew about his baby’s problems in July so why NOW should he choose to give this story as an exclusive to The SUN other than to overshadow the Smith Institute investigation. Brown is a politician. ’nuff said.
Peter Parsons said this on December 2nd, 2006 at 6:07 am
Sorry RM - Labour have just too much previous for us to draw any other conclusion. The subject matter is irrevelant - it’s sad and is newsworthy, but the timing and prominence are the suspicious factors.
[Joanne - do calm down - your toxic bile tells us far more about you than about Iain Dale - maybe you are just jealous of his success ?]
vervet said this on December 2nd, 2006 at 7:15 am
Yes, I am jealous of a man who blogs all day, is packing three stone more than’s good for him and went to Hull University.
Christ, you Tories must be a desperate lot if you’re jealous of THAT.

Sadly I think Guido was spot on. Why did Brown go ‘live’ with the story of his first child’s death? I believe the CF diagnosis was made in July.
This is a measure of how corroded these people have been by their own spin culture.
And if, repeat if, there was not an ounce of tactic in the timing of this release (why exclusive to The Sun for instance???) then Brown has only himself and ‘his people’ to blame for having created this vile spin culture in the first place.

“Sick”? It’s nearly as sick as you using a post to create a bit of controversy in order to drum up business for the radio show you do with Guido; particularly when it concerns such tragic news. Not that I’m knocking it. It’s a great piece of marketing.

Wouldn’t wish such bad news on any parent, but at the same time past history says that Labour are more than capable of such a tactic.
Buster George said this on December 3rd, 2006 at 10:23 pm
Why wait so long before announcing the news? V. Suspicious. He didn’t need to mention at all. It’s private family business. It’s a shame Gordy isn’t as “open” when it comes to over taxing us and ripping off pensioners. The announcement over his child’s situation doesn’t humanise him into becoming the next Nu-Lab leader he want’s to be. Although, I just want to point out that I don’t wish this on ANY parent or child.
Teri said this on December 3rd, 2006 at 10:46 pm
Seriously, I know I shouldn’t expect Tories to be any more intelligent, but if you actually listened to the news items (instead of running around trying grasping at conspiracy theories) you’d have heard that initial tests showed the possibility of CF in July, and that it was confirmed early last week.
So stop jumping up and down and getting yourselves twisted in excitable knots.
steve said this on December 4th, 2006 at 9:36 am
On one level it’s no different from Gummer feeding BSE burgers to his kids. But the mere fact that there’s doubt as to the timing and method of this announcement, and the sickeningly gushing BBC drivel spouted by NR about it, speaks volumes.
Best time would have been at some charity do to raise the profile of the issue and raise funds. The real test for cynics will be how the Brownites use this next summer. I bet it gets used and abused.

More fool you.

Gordon’s budget has stretched to £600 million for a police genetic database, but could only manage £6 million for the four most common children’s genetic diseaes in the Genetic White paper. That’s prudent investment for you.
