The Tories like nothing more than a bit of Prescott-baiting in the House, and their benches were terribly saddened when John lost his Department and the dedicated question time that went with it. Since last summer they have had to make do with a combined half-hour session shared with the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.
Obviously someone must have complained that they weren’t getting enough time for their fun, and today the setup has changed. There is now a separate 15mins for the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, followed by 15mins for the Deputy Prime Minister (despite his lack of job), before PMQs start. Expect to see packed gleeful Tory benches at 11:45.
The only note of disappointment from their side today will be that it is unlikely that Prezza will get the chance to answer Question 13:
Mr Andrew Mackay (Bracknell): If he will ask the Cabinet Office to conduct a capability review of his Department.
Edit: I was wrong! He did make it to Q13, to much laughter in the House, and his riposte focused on Mackay’s “permatan”.
