Obviously this isn’t true, but it could have been, and yet not a single comment here can be construed as coming from a gloating leftie. This all rather confirms my suspicion that the Right will sanctimoniously take advantage of Thatcher’s death (when it comes, as it will) to try to paint the Left as heartless enemies of a misunderstood national hero…
A repellent example of lazy New Labour sowing of discord.
Were there any justice, as soon as she died there would ben national mourning and flags at half mast. The best Prime Minister of the century, almost surpassing even Churchill.
You are sick piece of shit Retard Monkey. I hope you burn while Thatcher looks down on scum like you - the very people whose beliefs almost saw Britain leave the developed world in the 1970s. Go to Russia and don’t come back.
Margaret Thatcher had the balls to do what Labour governments were scared to do.She therefore got all the flack but still won 3 elections because deep down people knew she was right. The tough and unpopular things she did is the reason Gordon Brown has such an easy ride with the economy today. Some Labour supporters have such entrenched hatred it’s scary and quite sick.
YOU LEFT WING COMMUNIST IDIOTS SHOULD BE STRUNG UP FROM THE NEAREST GALLOWS BY YOUR BOLLOCKS!!! MT WAS THE BEST PM THE UK HAS HAD SINCE CHURCHILL AND TO CELEBREATE HER DEATH IS CLOSE TO TREASON SO F**K ALL COMMUNISTS TWATS WHO HAVE AS MANY BRAIN CELLS AS A HANDICAPED ASS.
APOLOGY NOW! Shameful, petty behaviour.
She would never speak ill of a Labour politician in such circumstances so have some respect! When will Labour pygmies accept that she changed this country for the better; look at the state we were in at the 1979 election. Immaterial however, she is a mother and grandmother and posting rubbish such as this on here is inhuman!
Thatcher won re-election because A/ she won the falklands war, B/The SDP Liberals split the opposition vote and C/ anyone would have beaten Foot. Oh I nearly forgot - she lied about lowering our taxes and we fell for the con too.
Nickolage. The fact is,a lot,an awful lot of ordinary working class people voted for her, more than had ever voted Tory before.Thatcher won an election again in 87,after her so called 83 Falkands victory. She won with a higher percentage of the vote than Blair got last time round, who’s government has increased and introduced far more taxes than Thatcher ever did.
The next election will be a close run thing you wait and see and that’s because of the huge sense of being let down by this government.May not be a Tory win but if Labour get back in their majority will be so low they’ll be even less likely to change things for the better. What was that song again? Oh those heady days in 97,how real Labour supporters must look back and wonder what went wrong.
You are right in that I do look back and wonder what went wrong but then I also have a good idea of the reason New Labour is like it is. It goes right back to the subject of this debate - Thatcher. She did change the face of politics as is so often claimed but not for the good. She put in place a mindset amongst politicians that ensured that we will never again be told the truth about tax by any of them. The tax rises that they all bring in will always be disguised in an ever more unfathomable system so that nobody can easily work out what they actually pay. When Thatcher lowered the headline income tax rate she whacked up VAT and for people like me who spend every penny they earn the difference was never more than 1 or maybe 2% overall and that was soon swallowed up by other so called stealth taxes. On top of that we had crippling interest rates. The current ridiculous house price inflation also stems from various policies bought in under Thatcher.
Thatcher policy on housing has allowed many hard working families the chance of home ownership something the left will always resent as it was popular so fuck you all!!!! God Save Maggie!!!!
Nickolage. So as with so many Labour people you are still, after nearly 10 years of Labour government blaming the Tories and not just the Tories but a Prime Minister who left office 17 years ago. When exactly do Labour take responsibility? When do they actually take over the running of the country? If this were a true Labour government, the unions would have their power back, privatisation would be reversed, free eye tests would be back, free milk in schools etc etc.Fact is Margaret Thatcher put her agenda into practice. This government does’nt have the courage of it’s convictions. She did.I’m willing to admit she made mistakes but the overall giste of what she did needed doing. This government has been one big experiment, trying to out Tory the Tories but the difference is there is no belief or conviction there.Very flattering that you say Thatcher is still influencing things today but does’nt say much for today’s politicians if they can’t reverse all the terrible things,in your view that she is supposed to have done.
The so called hard working people who got a chance to own their own homes had been happy to take the cheap rented home up till then. What they really got was a chance to pay a big mortgage, making them a slave to their house purchase, and also denying those who followed them the chance of a realistically priced house. If those people wanted to own a house why did they not just get the deposit and buy one. If they could not afford the deposit why should I and other tax/rate payers fund them by giving them a council house at a cut rate. They already lived there for a cut price rate but some folk are never satisfied.
You sound like a very “why don’t they get on their bikes” Tory there Nickolarge.Only the wealthy can afford any type of house these days under your beloved government
Let us not forget Thatcher presided over three million unemployed, massive home repossessions, negative equity, and the iron heel of oppression of working class people - miners and printers and others - through the political abuse of the police service AND she did more to destroy British industry than Hitler.
How many ex council tennants lost their homes when they failed to make the mortgage payments. The lack of cheap affordable housing is one of the factors pushing prices up now. The fact that you no longer need to raise a deposit is another factor as is banks lending silly multiples of income and giving people buy to let mortgages. A home to live in is something everybody needs but for many is becoming a luxury they cannot afford. Thatcher abolished the controls on lending and , like most Tory policies that claim to be giving freedom of choice, in the long run the benefits only serve a small minority. The freedom to borrow yourself into crippling debt is no freedom at all. PS: I don’t love this government - but I will never vote Tory as long as I have a hole in my backside.
Tories help the rich, Labour helps the rest. I joined the Labour Party as a direct result of Margaret Thatcher and left it as a result of Tony Blair. I guess that should make me a Liberal but I’m not very comfortable in the middle of the road . . . . . .
I used to feel a bit sorry for the grey man. Blair I think has in some ways been the natural inheritor of Thatcher’s mantle ….. war, snouts in trough, continuity of and even expansion of privatisation. On the other hand pensioners have had a better deal under Labour than they ever did under the Tories and the Health Service is better. On the other hand we still have people sleeping in shop doorways, poor families paying extortionate private rents because there’s not enough social housing and we still have a lousy privatised rail service. I think I am turning into a grumpy old woman. No hope of living long enough to see a good, solid, SOCIALIST government I suppose, Comrades?
I think you’ll find that personal debt is higher than ever under this government and if you want a house you need to borrow 4 or 5 times your salary and even then people are having to get mates etc to buy with them.Yes,Labour really helps the poor.More working class people got a step up the ladder under the Tories,my family included. If we did’nt have wealthy people to create business etc how would the rest of us have jobs? Would we just sit at home and blame the government.Unfortunately seems that some on here would.
The health service is better????? What about MRSA? What about doctor’s saying to my mother recently that she was better off at home than in hospital in case she got an infection? What about doctors and nurses doing such long shifts they are too tired to give proper patient care as much as they want to.A friend of mine…who is a socialist by the way had to leave the NHS recently and against all her principles is working in a private hospital. She left because she could’nt give the patients the attention they deserved.Pensioners better off? That’s why some have gone to jail because they can’t pay their council tax is it?
I do agree it would be good to see a proper socialist Labour party. There are many people in this country who don’t have a voice and that’s not good for democracy.Much as i hate socialism because i think it supresses people i do admire the likes of Tony Benn,Derek Skinner etc because they totally believe in what they say and can argue a point.Noone has been able to tell me in all these posts what New Labour is.It’s been a slanging match on both sides but was started by a socialist revelling in the news that a former, democratically elected Prime Minister was allegedly dead.Whatever your politics, that is sick, however much you disagreed with her.It is therefore not surprising that normally placid Tories like myself have felt the need to defend her.I’m a working class bloke and a Tory and proud of both. You may want to simplify things by saying Tories are middle and upper class and Labour working class. Those days went in the 70’s along with the last truly Labour government, thank God.
Being wealthy is all about imbalance and preservation of your own position. In order to be rich you have to have a well above average bank balance. To be above average others must be below average. You could be forgiven for thinking that if more people had more money business’ would do better and we would all be better off. It might even be true but we will never find out because ‘they’ will never let it happen. We have low inflation now but because it has gone over a self imposed target interest rates have risen and that’s £100 extra on my mortgage. Apparently you and I have too much money and, god forbid, we are spending it! Still, it is nowhere near as bad as Maggie and Johns rates and as yet we have not had two reccesions as we did under Thatcher or a three day week like under Heath. I seem to remember being quite well off in the sixties too, which was the last time Labour got a decent period in office. Personal debt is higher than ever but as I already said that is in part due to Thatcher dumping the laws controling lending.
Stop Press - They have just blamed Thatcher for the man made global warming con trick that we are all being taxed to death with. Apparently she was so keen on nuclear power that she funded our scientists on the condition that they proved that fossil fuels were to blame. This comes right from Nigel Lawsons mouth, and he should know.
You know Nickolarge we will never agree but i enjoy your posts. At least you can argue your point. If only you could reflect on celebrating a falsely reported death maybe we’d even get on.I have some very left wing mates but still have a pint with them.Politics makes people, angry, passionate etc but i just think it’s extreme wishing someone dead and celebrating it.I can’t tell you how much i can’t even bare looking at or listening to Tony Blair but i honestly would never wish him dead
That’s an insult to all the people who voted for her.A lot of decent people.Yes a lot of right wing, biggotted arseholes voted for her too unfortunately. However i don’t mix in those circles and you get extremes hanging on to all political parties and they are as disteasteful to me as you. However, you are deluded if you don’t think that an awful lot of decent, hard working people voted for her.You would probably class them as traitors but fact is they exist.I’m one of them.Don’t have to justify it either.I’m proud i did.Maggie was forthright, abrasive, arrogant at times. She was not evil. She did’nt sit in Downing St calculating how to destroy peoples lives.People got hurt by her policies because no government previously had the stomach to tackle the country’s then huge problems. The British people could have kicked her out of office. They did’nt
She deliberately set about attacking working class people - miners, printers etc. She presided over the destruction of British industry. She had a shoot to kill policy on Northern Ireland. She hated the working class despite the fact that many of them had voted for her. She even stole the school milk from little children and that was before she became prime minister. She had a deliberate ploy of maintaining unemployment - 3 million unemployed she created in order to rule by fear and she didn’t give a damn about all the misery she caused. She used the police as political pawns to attack decent working people. She encouraged the idea that “there’s no such thing as society” - all “Devil take the hindmost” - cold, callous uncaring. What can I say - other PMs have been incompetent, shifty, made mistakes - she knew what she was doing and did it deliberately, which is why so many people hate her. MacMillan, Heath, Major et al never inspired such hatred - now why do you think that is?
I would broadly agree with the assessment above. Also when it comes to voting and mandates etc our political system has not produced a 51% plus winner for god knows how long. If you factor in those who don’t vote that would be never. Every government starts with more voting against them than for them.
Don’t put all working class in the same boat.I know miners, nurses, refuse collectors, shop workers etc who voted for her.I worked i a supermarket stacking shelves when i voted for her first time. Not everyone hated her.A lot found what she was doing hard to stomach and uncomfortable but knew it was right for the good of the country as a whole.I get no pleasure out of the fact that a lot of families got hurt along the way. That’s still happening today with Blair but he seems to get away with it with a very smug smile
That unemployment was there before Thatcher. It was hidden. It was people working in car factories producing cars noone was buying, producing steel that was too expensive to sell abroad etc. Those Prime Ministers that were all cuddly and nice and we don’t hate did nothing about that and deserve to be hated for their complacency.
Your family was obviously hit hard in the Thatcher years and understandably you hate her.I have a mate who’s been killed in Iraq and believe me i veermently detest Tony Blair who’s made this country a dangerous place to live under the threat of terrorism by licking George Bush’s arse and sending young lads to fight a ridiculous war.Yes the Tories voted for it to much to their shame.
The idea that a Prime Minister set out to destroy the working class is totally ludicrous to me and as a working class guy i certainly did’nt feel that way.No i don’t live in a leafy suburb.I’m from Wrexham in North Wales which if you do your homework you’ll realise is a ver working class town
The trouble is that the war thing is like the tax thing. If you vote against war you are seen to be soft and not supporting our boys out there. If you admit that you are going to have to put some taxes up you are going to lose votes by the sackfull. So people who don’t agree with the war vote for it and they all lie about taxes. The economy would be far better controlled with taxes but because of the political fallout they use interest rates instead. When interest rates rise the banks get more of our money and the pound strengthens sucking in imports. At least tax rises get spent on us.
I agreed with the war initially as did many.I did’nt know then that the US and UK had no plans for restoring peace.
As for taxes. If they were fair i agree but i’m yet to be persuaded that taxes on big cars, air travel etc are actually going to help climate change.Very convenient way to get extra revenue. If i see results i may be persuaded.Same goes for the health service.I’m pleased more than ever before is being spent but very displeased when i see how unwisely it’s spent and it’s not getting through to front line patient care.I think if people saw concrete results from these taxes they would be less averse to them.
I’m working class and as i’ve said before don’t lump me in with the Thatcher haters. It so galls Labour supporters that a lot of working class people like me voted for her. Can’t get your heads round it can you? Too busy being supressed and down trodden and enjoying being martyrs to the socialist cause. What happened to that by the way?
The socialist cause, mark? Kinnock started the attack on that and Blair’s done the rest. It took New Labour to suppress the socialist cause - Thatcher could never have done that - she was more of a recruiting officer for socialism
Baroness Thatcher is alive and well and in fact in better health than in recent years.
We should all rejoice in this news for a great leader who believed in what she did and did what she thought was right remains with us. This was the last leader that the UK will have that did not lead by concensus and mindless focus groups and climate surveys she lead from the brain and the heart. Of course she is loved and hated in equal measure but very few people could not respect someone who managed on less than five hours sleep and one weeks holiday a year for her elleven years in office. Inspirational
Totally agree with the the climate change point, and I have always been suspicious of politicians motives in supporting the ‘man made’ theory. In fact it was politicians supporting it that made me doubt the whole thing. They normally deny anything along these lines because of the cost and pressure from vested interests. However global warming is really all about energy resources and the West gaining control of them. On top of that it’s the best tax excuse to come along for ages.
Sigh! I really wish people would do their homework before posting anything other than flippant, off the cuff responses.
“The danger of global warming is as yet unseen, but real enough for us to make changes and sacrifices” - Margaret Thatcher, 2nd World Climate Conference, Nov 6 1990.
“The danger of global warming is as yet unseen, but real enough for us to make changes and sacrifices, so that we do not live at the expense of future generations.” Margaret Thatcher, 2nd World Climate Conference, Nov 6 1990.
Isn’t it amazing (actually its typical and what we have come to expect) for these stupid leftie idiots to post such sick filth.
The leftie communists are the worst bigots, liars and downright retarded people that we get. Stop wasting precious internet bandwith and go on a cnd march (hopefully getting beaten up or shot by a brave member of Her Majesty’s Police Force)

Nickolage said this on March 6th, 2007 at 9:58 am
Oh those heady days in 97,how real Labour supporters must look back and wonder what went wrong.
mark said this on March 6th, 2007 at 10:28 am
Nickolage said this on March 6th, 2007 at 10:47 am
Thatcher policy on housing has allowed many hard working families the chance of home ownership something the left will always resent as it was popular so fuck you all!!!! God Save Maggie!!!!
S said this on March 6th, 2007 at 11:34 am

Thatcherite said this on March 7th, 2007 at 5:24 pm
The so called hard working people who got a chance to own their own homes had been happy to take the cheap rented home up till then. What they really got was a chance to pay a big mortgage, making them a slave to their house purchase, and also denying those who followed them the chance of a realistically priced house. If those people wanted to own a house why did they not just get the deposit and buy one. If they could not afford the deposit why should I and other tax/rate payers fund them by giving them a council house at a cut rate. They already lived there for a cut price rate but some folk are never satisfied.
Nickolarge said this on March 7th, 2007 at 11:27 pm
You sound like a very “why don’t they get on their bikes” Tory there Nickolarge.Only the wealthy can afford any type of house these days under your beloved government
mark said this on March 8th, 2007 at 1:26 am
Let us not forget Thatcher presided over three million unemployed, massive home repossessions, negative equity, and the iron heel of oppression of working class people - miners and printers and others - through the political abuse of the police service AND she did more to destroy British industry than Hitler.
fishwife said this on March 8th, 2007 at 1:43 am
Nickolarge said this on March 8th, 2007 at 1:47 am

No hope of living long enough to see a good, solid, SOCIALIST government I suppose, Comrades?
fishwife said this on March 8th, 2007 at 2:29 am
I think you’ll find that personal debt is higher than ever under this government and if you want a house you need to borrow 4 or 5 times your salary and even then people are having to get mates etc to buy with them.Yes,Labour really helps the poor.More working class people got a step up the ladder under the Tories,my family included. If we did’nt have wealthy people to create business etc how would the rest of us have jobs? Would we just sit at home and blame the government.Unfortunately seems that some on here would.
mark said this on March 8th, 2007 at 10:22 am
Those days went in the 70’s along with the last truly Labour government, thank God.
mark said this on March 8th, 2007 at 6:02 pm
Nickolarge said this on March 8th, 2007 at 9:47 pm
Stop Press - They have just blamed Thatcher for the man made global warming con trick that we are all being taxed to death with. Apparently she was so keen on nuclear power that she funded our scientists on the condition that they proved that fossil fuels were to blame. This comes right from Nigel Lawsons mouth, and he should know.
Nickolarge said this on March 8th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
You know Nickolarge we will never agree but i enjoy your posts. At least you can argue your point. If only you could reflect on celebrating a falsely reported death maybe we’d even get on.I have some very left wing mates but still have a pint with them.Politics makes people, angry, passionate etc but i just think it’s extreme wishing someone dead and celebrating it.I can’t tell you how much i can’t even bare looking at or listening to Tony Blair but i honestly would never wish him dead

That is because Blair is unpleasant and uninspiring but Thatcher was downright EVIL when she was prime minister
fishwife said this on March 8th, 2007 at 11:00 pm
They did’nt
mark said this on March 8th, 2007 at 11:11 pm
MacMillan, Heath, Major et al never inspired such hatred - now why do you think that is?
fishwife said this on March 8th, 2007 at 11:24 pm
I would broadly agree with the assessment above. Also when it comes to voting and mandates etc our political system has not produced a 51% plus winner for god knows how long. If you factor in those who don’t vote that would be never. Every government starts with more voting against them than for them.
Nickolarge said this on March 8th, 2007 at 11:51 pm
The idea that a Prime Minister set out to destroy the working class is totally ludicrous to me and as a working class guy i certainly did’nt feel that way.No i don’t live in a leafy suburb.I’m from Wrexham in North Wales which if you do your homework you’ll realise is a ver working class town
mark said this on March 8th, 2007 at 11:55 pm
The trouble is that the war thing is like the tax thing. If you vote against war you are seen to be soft and not supporting our boys out there. If you admit that you are going to have to put some taxes up you are going to lose votes by the sackfull. So people who don’t agree with the war vote for it and they all lie about taxes. The economy would be far better controlled with taxes but because of the political fallout they use interest rates instead. When interest rates rise the banks get more of our money and the pound strengthens sucking in imports. At least tax rises get spent on us.
Nickolarge said this on March 9th, 2007 at 11:23 am
I agreed with the war initially as did many.I did’nt know then that the US and UK had no plans for restoring peace.
As for taxes. If they were fair i agree but i’m yet to be persuaded that taxes on big cars, air travel etc are actually going to help climate change.Very convenient way to get extra revenue. If i see results i may be persuaded.Same goes for the health service.I’m pleased more than ever before is being spent but very displeased when i see how unwisely it’s spent and it’s not getting through to front line patient care.I think if people saw concrete results from these taxes they would be less averse to them.
