Shadow Home Affairs Spokesman Patrick Mercer today marked International Women’s Day by not including female soldiers in his list of minority groups that are allowed to be singled out for abuse in the army.

His noble gesture shows that David Cameron has successfully dragged the Tory party kicking and screaming into the early 20th century.

  5. In fairness many Tories are nice enough. For their long period in opposition they’ve been relatively affable. It’s just when they get a sniff of power (my precioussssss). You only have to look at Iain Dale and PragueTory (the latter who was never particularly pleasant) to see how the SoP (my preciousssssss) turns them into unpleasant, crawling on their belly, moon howling racist types worryingly quickly.

When the Tory party tries to change,it still gets knocked.David Cameron is changing it.He had to act deciseively.Whether or not it was out and out racism is a whole different debate.Are “ginger bastards” going to be crying racism? It’s a very sensitive thorny issue and it’s telling that sevaeral black soldiers have come to Mr Mercer’s defence.It was a crass thing for him to say and it goes against what Cameron is trying to do so he had to go.Simple as that
