Westminster City Council is backing down on it’s anti-gay aromatherapy policy after this story in Recess Monkey.
The council-run Porchester Spa has been ordered to review its pricing policy, which currently allows “mixed couples†to use the facility for £28.25, while same-sex couples are charged £40.70.
Councillor Daniel Astaire, Westminster council’s Cabinet Member for Massage, said:
“Westminster City Council are aware of this issue and are currently reviewing the Porchester Spa discount offer as part of an equalities impact assessment. The offer was originally introduced to encourage attendance at the centre’s mixed sex sessions. However, we are now discussing changing the offer with the leisure centre contractors, Cannons.”
MPs and their staff may wish to note the facility offers “a range of treatments including an adaptation of the traditional Russian birch-leaf treatment, a shmeise, which involves being massaged with a giant soap-gorged raffia brush in a steam room followed by fresh cold towels or a firm massage with jasmine oil on a marble slab followed by hot towel wraps helping to leave you feeling totally energised”.

HEY RECESS!! How about you covering the news that Labour Councillor Miranda Grell (london Borough of Waltham Forest) has been charged by the Police with 4 counts of breaching section 106 of the Representation of the People Act (the section about making false statements about other candidates) allegedly for mounting a homphobic campaign against gay LibDem councillor Barry Smith??
Labour are being prosecuted for this, nobody else is, so it would seem that the evidence is that it is Labour who have a homophobia problem.

Any update on this yet? It is 10 months on now but the council website still says the couple discount is for mixed couples on Sundays. Anyone know any different?

Steamy Sundays just got cheaper. Porchester Spa has been practicing a new regime of “COUPLES SUNDAY” After 4 pm. The new Gay and lesbian friendly policy has according to Lee the House Shmeisser (Jewish steam room therapy). been a complete success with a genuinely friendly atmosphere with couples, whether just good friends or ships steaming through the night sweating away contentedly. Price per pair.£29.35. Rescard holders £24. Phew that means We can afford another Shmeisse !!
