Over the years I have started to warm to Sean Woodward and to think of him as a Labour MP - no mean feat for a Tory defector - though I’m still unsure whether we did OK out of the deal. We gained a man of capable junior minister calibre, he gained a safe Labour seat, and the Tories gained a vacant seat where one David Cameron could be elected.
Even so, one of the things that has won him over for me is the candid and emotional way that he has spoken about his trans-sexual brother and how that has affected his view of gay rights in particular.
So it comes as something of a surprise that he invokes “personal privacy” when asked recently about his carbon footprint.
I wonder what he has to hide?
