No, I’m not talking about Gordon’s maiden PMQs appearance today, but the horrible thought I was struck with this morning - what will happen when the next big international conference takes place?
When the Prime Minister is away, the Deputy Prime Minister takes over at PMQs. And when they are both away (Prescott went with Tony to some of the biggest gatherings), the Leader of the House takes charge. Theoretically it then falls to ‘a senior Minister’.
But Harriet Harman is both Deputy Leader (yes, not DPM, but probably next in line) as well as Leader of the House. So it’s quite possible that a future big summit will deprive us of Gordon, Harriet and probably Miliband too.
And that leaves us with…Alistair Darling? Shudder.

Jack Straw is First Secretary of State, as was Prescott.
