I’m sorry, but I’m not going to apologise



What is an apology? Why do people apologise? And why is it hard sometimes for people to apologise?

These and many other questions are helpfully answered in Apologies: A Practical Guide, recently issued by the New South Wales Ombudsman in Australia.

Taking intervention and political correctness just a wee bit too far methinks…

  3. Originally an ‘apology’ was not a statement of regret, but a statement in defence of one’s actions. The 18th century Poet Laureate (and ‘chief dunce’ of the Dunciad) Colley Cibber wrote a scandalous and highly readable memoir called “An Apology for the Life of Colley Cibber”.
