When did you stop beating your wife?…

…is considered to be a prejudicial question, and generally inappropriate.

I wonder if we’re allowed to make an exception for Croydon Central MP Andrew Pelling?

Andrew Pelling

According to the BBC, he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his young wife and Bailed to return on October 1st.

I wonder if wife-assault is a deselection criterion in the Conservative Party? Didn’t Howard Flight get dumped for proposing tax cuts? Surely wife-assault is worse?

  1. Wasn’t it a Hunt Master who said beating up a hunt saboteur was much the same as beating the wife - ‘a private matter’. It’s all part of what makes Briaian great.

  2. Surely in the Tory party this means a promotion?

  3. It’s par for the course. See James Gray, MP for North Wiltshire, he left his wife while she was recovering from cancer for a Countryside Alliance worker (she was married too). Later he downplayed how serious her illness was. nice.

  4. … and the Chief Executive of the Scottish Countryside Alliance had an affair with a married member of staff.
