That’s a brilliant blogpost - I shall congratulate that man. There are some legendary quotes in there. However, my favourite Enoch quote is that a politician complaining about the media is like a fisherman complaining about the sea.

“As a Tory” - He wasn’t saying that when he was a labour minister.
Kudos on a decent post again RM.

As the screenshots indicate, this guy said “Enoch was Right (which, in a purely political sense, is surely correct”, so highlighting his ideological leaning, not offering a judgement on the ‘rivers of blood’ speech (which he doesn’t mention once or indeed the issue of immigration at all). This didn’t stop a rather grubby press release from Lewisham Labour trying to mislead people about the post, hence his reason for taking the blog post down I suppose. First unfairly attacking a Tory MP’s daughter and now lazily regurgitating a tawdry line sent out by some local politics wannabee, how standards are slipping…

Mike - get a life you maggot.
Andrew Milton is a tosser as is that bint you’ve again sprung to the defence of. She’s fair game, ***********.

RM, what was it Michael Foot said about Sir Oswald Mosely when he died…

Michael Foot said “No rising star in the political firmament ever shone more brightly than Sir Oswald Mosley. Since by general assent he could have become the leader of either the Labour or the Conservative Party. What Mosley so valiantly stood for could have saved this country from the Hungry Thirties and the Second World War”.

Enoch was indeed right.

This whole story has lessons for bloggers everywhere. I was musing over the story of the Conservative candidate who got into trouble for saying Enoch was right. I Googled “Enoch Powell quotations” to find the original Rivers of Blood speech, and came across a whole load of Powell quotations which I found, paradoxically, I could agree with (and please re-read the entry which RM has posted to see whether you might be in the same boat too). Not, I hasten to add, any about race or immigration. So I blogged to that effect, with a headline which would be contradicted by the content of the story. It’s called irony, or something like that. But tribal politicians clearly don’t do irony. I decided to remove the entry when the Leader of my local Liberal Democrat council group said that he didn’t understand it. That was probably a mistake. But I am not going to complain about the sea, or the malice of the Labour Party.

The comment by “Mustapha” says more about Lewisham Labour than Andrew Milton or Mike ever could.
That explains there ongoing decline, loss of overall control and imminent loss of the Mayoralty.
