Evidently, I owe NCVO an apology after I neglected to respond to an invitation to speak at a seminar for them yesterday. Fortunately, delectable blogger Kerron Cross spoke at the event and he reports it was an interesting debate on the use of Web 2.0 in campaigning and lobbying.

Doubly disappointing for me is that another member of the panel was Tory MP Nadine “Mad Nad” Dorries and I missed an opportunity to discuss this interesting subject with her.
Evidently I also owe Kerron an apology as he was the brunt of an extensive tirade from Nadine, which he ended by interrupting and asking her, “You do know I’m not Alex Hilton don’t you?”

Not strictly accurate, but then I realise Recess Monkey has rarely ever been that!
She was pleasant enough to me - but I’d steer clear of her if I was you.
Which I’m not. (Just so everyone knows. ;-))
Kerron said this on November 21st, 2007 at 5:24 pm
So it looks like that is now TWO apologies you owe her!
you’re not very good at PR are you?

Rofl - the most dissapointing (sic) thing is your spelling. Seems that you’re very liberal with your apologies… when it doesn’t matter.
Praguetory said this on November 21st, 2007 at 7:21 pm
Have you noticed that the whole administration is getting a pasting for finance and security and you’re d1cking about by having a go at ND. I know she’s an easy target, but the words “Rome”, “burning” and “fiddling” spring to mind.
Stick up a post about HMRC if you don’t want to look like Nero.

PT, thanks for the spellcheck. Ian M - please accept my deepest apologies for the failings of the Recess Monkey editorial policy, we’re profoundly saddened to have lost your patronage.

Hey Alex, interesting piece on CiF today, being ‘mixed race’ [but self identifying as black in the political sense] I can relate to where you’re coming from on racism.
You should write a bit more from that perspective, refreshing reading in the torrent of words on racism/social cohesion etc…

Wow Leon - supportive comment gratefully appreciated - but if I turned Recess Monkey into a space for my egomaniacal pseudo-intellectual rants, I’d end up the only reader!

Congratulations on almost publicly apologising to Nadine.
I do want to apologise and shall do so when I get the opportunity.
I must congratulate your regular sycophants like Sir Humphrey for giving you the confidence to continue this dreadful exercise in self-justification. Happily it has exposed you to a very wide audience.
Praguetory said this on November 22nd, 2007 at 3:10 pm
If I truly was sycophantical, I’d surely choose somebody slightly more influential to brown nose.
If I disagreed with him, I wouldn’t hesitate to say so, it just so happens that on this occasion I agree with what Alex said, perhaps not his precise method of execution, nor futile attempts of disguising the identity, but the principal. Yet I also found Dorries’ response amusing.
Sir Humphrey. said this on November 22nd, 2007 at 6:36 pm
Humphrey - sounds like you’re distancing yourself from Alex. Where’s the loyalty?
Is it ““the principal or the principle?” that you agree with. If you’re not Alex, you’re certainly on a par for illiteracy.
Praguetory said this on November 22nd, 2007 at 6:58 pm
Maybe I was refering to Alex as the principal. Who knows?
Lose one of the speech marks.

Have Dorries and Spink apologised to Ben Goldacre yet?
Gus Friar said this on November 23rd, 2007 at 6:11 pm
Alex as someone who thought that the administration would improve under brown, i’ve been so disappointed, but the worst bit is that no one seems to be able to put their head above the parapet to explain convincingly how things are going to get back on track.
If you think that’s not true, why did we wheel out HH for the tvs today?
You haven’t lost my patronage, I was just hoping that you might “grasp the nettle” a bit more.
Ian M said this on November 23rd, 2007 at 6:39 pm
Thanks Kerron, If you hadn’t explained I might have beieved him. You seriously did yourself no good on this one mate. Apart from anything else Nads is well liked and the last thing our MPs want is a Tory nerd like you looking through their kids private stuff. Lets hope you haven’t done any real harm.
I spy said this on November 23rd, 2007 at 8:20 pm
Ian, like you I was hopeful with Brown… right until the point pitched his camp with that old witch MT. Now let’s see, privitisation, abolishment of student grants, poll tax, unemployment, recession (even better -unemployment during a recession - any of you lot tried that?). You might aswell jump ship now… I have.
