The Daily Mail has a reputation for insidious racism and xenophobic propaganda, however, this leaked email from features writer Diana Appleyard illustrates the extent of the Mail’s cynicism. (from )

  1. Still the same paper that bought us the headline HURRAH FOR THE BLACKSHRITS. I think that while we should retain the right to free speech journalists should be expected to stick to a their code of conduct and that those falling below that should get the same treatment as a politician getting caught doing something like this. The women does not deserve to be in work. Give her job to a nice Pole.

  2. So as Labour give our sovereignty away to unelected Euro Commissioners and our financial indeopendence away to Arab bankers all Labour apparatchicks like Recess can think about is protecting dishonest Eastern European’s from deserved exposure in the Daily Mail. Fuiture generations will curse us for electing the worst government in British hstory and then allowing them to divert attention from their myriad failures by obsessing on crap like this post from you Recess.

  3. That aside, tell me - why do they call you Mr Angry?

  4. What a disgrace - surely against journalistic ethics this. Excellent work for exposing this - she’s really shot her own reputation to shreds.

  5. Nothing wrong with this. Stories of dishonest Eastern Europeans are common, but it still requires research to find evidence of this. Labour Party propaganda is that all Eastern Europeans are lovely, honest, wonderful people who are hard working, and without whom the country could not run, which is absolute b******t. Well done to the Daily Mail for helping to counter these government lies, and for finding facts to substantiate their story.

  6. I hardly think offering money for unsubstantiated anonymous anecdotes constitutes “finding facts”. The government may be biased but you can hardly claim that the Daily Mail, who constantly scaremonger about immigrants, are impartial or balanced in their views.

  7. Nobody is claiming that the Daily Mail is impartial or balanced, and in fact, they are extremely honest about their anti immigrant and anti government agenda.

Government propaganda would have us believe the following about Eastern European immigrants:
    1. They are all hard working people who selflessly sacrifice themselves to help the UK economy.
    2. They never commit crime.
    3. They do jobs that British people refuse to do.
    4. The entire economy would collapse without them.
    5. They are in no way responsible for a fall in wages currently being experienced by British people, despite compteting for the same jobs and being prepared to work for almost nothing.
    6. They never use the NHS, and therefore, by paying a couple of quid in taxes, they are contributing to our public services.
    7. They never take part in aggressive begging, prostitution, people smuggling or other unpleasentness.
    8. They are all lovely lovely people who bring us nothing but joy and happiness through the ‘enrichment of diversity’ and we should all be grateful that they are here, and never complain about overcrowding, or issues like finding, or finding your local GP’s surgery swarming with foreigners who, by virtue of the fact that they have only been in the country a few months, have contributed nothing to the service.

If the Mail wishes to counter this moronic government propaganda, which only a fool could believe, then, as long as they tell the truth, I support them.

  8. The Daily Mail is a shameful bigoted rag, shame on Gordon Brown for his friendship with Dacre too.

  9. Nobody is claiming that the Daily Mail is impartial or balanced, and in fact, they are extremely honest about their anti immigrant and anti government agenda.

    6. They never use the NHS, or any public services (even roads!) and therefore, by paying a couple of quid in taxes, they are contributing to the public purse.
    7. They never take part in aggressive begging, prostitution, people smuggling or other unpleasantness.
    8. 10. Some of the responses here (esp the one just above by ‘mike’) justifying what appears to be a rather shameless piece of scaremongering by the journalist just show how the blog-o-sphere is populated by right-wing nut jobs.
I don’t think anyone, apart from Mike, actually says what he proports. Talk about setting up false arguments to back up a dodgy opinion.

  11. if news stories of dishonest eastern europeans are really out there then it should report on them, BUT i don’t like the fact that this email promises money and anonymity - someone could easily make up a story just to get the money. very dodgy journalism tactics.

  12. Mike - nice strawman, where did you get it?

I am relaxed about this because I know the Daily Mail will use it as part of a sensible, balanced piece of reporting that relies on honestly-presented evidence and the views of leading experts in the field. Also, I am Napoleon Bonaparte.

  13. If you listen carefully to every pronouncement from every Labour politician, or read any article in the Guardian you will find the sentiments I have expressed above. This is how the Labour Party policy of uncontrolled and unlimited immigration was justified: Immigrants were portrayed as somehow vastly superior to the worthless working class white British people. After all, if they were just the same as British people, why allow millions of them to come to the country, and just add to overcrowding, without contributing anything to our country?

For years there has been a propaganda machine in operation designed to make the great unwashed believe that foreigners are wonderful God like beings, and bringers of utter loveliness, joy and happiness, and anyone who said they were even the same as British people, was labelled as a racist.

In fact, the only reason why they were allowed in in such massive numbers is to provide a source of cheap labour for business, and hence to make already very rich people even richer.

It looks to me as if the Mail is just trying to dispel the superman myth with regard to foreigners and hence make ordinary people, who pay the price of this uncontrolled influx, aware of what is being done to them. Nothing wrong with that.

  14. Sorry, but it’s not just the Mail. This is how British print journalism works. The Mail might be the most dangerous, bile-spewing example, but this is United Kingdom banana republic newspaper work at its most basic. Have your editor tell you the line your story needs to take, then give you the budget for what you can pay sources, then out you go to commit an act of “journalism”.
It’s an easy cop-out to point to the bad ol’ Mail and say, “yep, that’s what’s wrong with those guys”. But it’s really the whole filthy system.

  15. ‘This is how the Labour Party policy of uncontrolled and unlimited immigration was justified’

Sorry but this just blatantly isn’t true - we do not have unlimited immigration otherwise why would there the Daily Mail be reporting on so many ‘illegal immigrants’ stealing our jobs etc etc. I am sure that there are Eastern Europeans involved in crime, but then I am also sure that there are many more non-Eastern Europeans involved in crime.

  17. Seems like simple bad journalism, just getting anonymous stuff via phone calls. But of course bad rightwing journalism is so much more evil than bad leftwing jorunalism.

I claim my £100 for the story of the murder of 94-year old Thea Zaudy. Her alleged killers are her Polish cleaner, Jolanta Kalinowsica, Ms Kalinowsica’s son Adrian Ryszard Lis and his girlfriend Monilca Sienkiewicz. The trial continues.

  18. Mike, you talk rubbish - and seem to project your own insecurities about race onto other people.

    Get a life.

  19. Shanker me old mate. We are talking about Eastern Europeans here, and they are white. If you accuse others of racism too often it begins to lose effect, like the boy who cried wolf. Think about it.

If you want to talk about ethics, just remember the Labour Party official who said that 9/11 was a good day to ‘bury bad news’. It’s a tough world out there.

  20. I’m sorry but how can anyone defend this example of blatant racism? Call me a wide eyed, naive, media virgin, but I read this over my lunch and felt sick. What chance do hard working, tax paying Eastern Europeans have in this country with a national newspaper persecuting them? I’ve always thought the Daily Mail should be on the top shelf of newsagents so people at least feel stigmatised in buying it (and move porn down a shelf, much better for you) and that if ever there was a case for censorship the Mail makes it quite eloquently. It’s no coincidence that two of my uncles (in their early ’60s) who read the Mail often make racist comments apparently unaware of the impact of what they’re saying because they read it everyday, albeit in more sophisticated language.
Oh sod it, what do I know. And how is this helping anyway. Futility sucks. I’ll just keep not buying the Daily Mail, like I’ve always not done.

  21. Mike:
    1. They are all hard working people who selflessly sacrifice themselves to help the UK economy: No, but they are less likely to claim benefits than the average.
    2. They never commit crime: They are less likely to commit crime
    3. They do jobs that British people refuse to do: Yes, they work cheaply and on the whole quite well.
    4. The entire economy would collapse without them: Obviously not, but they are doing their bit.
    5. They are in no way responsible for a fall in wages currently being experienced by British people[..]: Fall in wages? As far as I know, both wage and price inflation are on the up. Also, before there were east European builders, there were Portuguese and Colombian builders, and before them, probably, Irish ones.
    6. They never use the NHS[…]: Clearly not true, but because they tend to be younger, they are far less of a strain on the NHS than the average.
    7. They never take part in aggressive begging, prostitution, people smuggling or other unpleasantness: Different issues here - are we talking about the legal migrants from EU countries or illegals from Moldova, Ukraine etc? Illegals are the ones who tend to get involved in such things, and they are just that - illegal.
Of course there are some bad eggs, just like there are in any group of people. But you’ve taken these as counterexamples to a case that no-one is making: that they are all perfect citizens.
And racism can be white-on-white. That’s why it’s racist to hate the Irish, or indeed for Hutus to slaughter Tutsis on the basis of their ethnicity. The idea of race that divides the world in to a small number of discrete groupings (black, brown, yellow, white) and confines racism to prejudice only between these, is absurdly simplistic and outdated. In any case, Shanker didn’t call you a racist, he said you had insecurities about race. If the cap fits, though…

  22. On incitement can you have a word with Gordon Brown and tell him to stop using BNPO slogans, then you can lecture us on what the Daily Mail amy or mayn not have done.

  23. It is really shocking, it clears my longterm doubt about the cover stories on affected peoples in journals and TV shows. Most of the times journalists and news makers, printing and telecasting about those issues just to create controversies. So they can get most readers or viewers. Unethical practice.

  24. Mike - your an idiot, jews are white too and they often suffer racist abuse. The Germans claimed superiority of the Aryan race and butchered the ’slavs’ or people of Eastern European descent over racist beliefs so race is not just a matter of skin colour.

You’ve just shown yourself to be a typical daily mail reader - ignorant about the very people you are bigoted about.

  25. Andy me old mate, I am glad that you think I am an idiot, because the biggest mistake you can ever make is to underestimate your enemy, whether in war or in politics.

Instead of resorting to personal abuse, which makes YOU look stupid, have you considered using reasoned arguments to get your point across? That’s what the BNP do, and as a result, they are making great progress at the ballot box, all over the country.

  26. Sick woman - sick rag of a racist, bigoted Brits. I have the most wonderful friends from Africa and Eastern Europe, thank God!

  27. Bird Johnson Retire…

Interesting - because that is the same thing I found out last Thursday….

  28. well with eastern europeans, asians, africans are also involved in crime and to prevent britain from asians (specially indians) the politicians made legal entry to eastern european countries to work in britain!
