MPs having one last drink on the terrace tonight should keep their eyes peeled for this man.
Adam Mellows-Facer, an account manager at Quintus, was responsible for this press release on behalf of the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers claiming the taxpayer subsidises Parliament’s bars to the tune of £5.5 million a year.
With righteous indignation, the release proclaims: “MPs leaving Westminster for the summer face a gruelling 12-weeks in the real world without subsidised drink!”
Guido - no stranger to drinking on the parliamentary estate - has splashed on it this afternoon.
What Adam hasn’t declared is that he too was able to enjoy state-sponsored boozing as he spent five years working at the House of Commons Research Library.
It’s good to see that his research skills answering pointless submissions from David Amess have now been put to the greater good!
Whether Quintus clients will continue to get a fair hearing from ministers and MPs is probably open to debate.
But I’d imagine that a lobbyist who makes a point of implying politicians are work-shy, tight-fisted drunks won’t last long in the profession!
