Cash for constituencies?

peterhall_narrowweb__300×3940.jpg.

The Electoral Commission’s register of donations is always a cornucopia of delights.

There are now 12 hedge fund managers, private equity firms and other city financiers who have chipped in more than £1,020,000 to the Tories in the last quarter (Three times as many as Labour.)

But Recess Monkey has been drawn to Peter J Hall, who has stumped up £50,000 and £20,000 to Boris Johnson’s campaign.

In fact, since 2005, Peter J Hall has donated £317,000 to the Tories, including payments to the individual conservative associations of Newark and Bath.

We wonder if he’s the same Peter J Hall (pictured above) who is the millionaire fund manager of Hunter Hall Investment? This Peter J Hall, whose uncle was a close friend of the dirty digger, has also bought a controlling stake in Prospect magazine, whose holding company Prospect Publishing had a certain Oliver Letwin as a director.

This Peter J Hall who apparently spends more than four months of the year in Australia, wants a nice seat in the House of Commons.

We’re completely sure these two facts and the two Peter J Halls are completely unrelated.

  1. He’s a bit of an environutter.

  2. Dear Recess Monkey,

Your blog contains many inaccuracies. Neither I, nor any entity associated with me, have donated any money to the Bracknell constituency. In the register of interests £6,000 is shown as having been donated by “The Hall Hunter Partnership Ltd” of Heathlands Farm. I have no relationship with this company.

My father is not a close friend of the dirty digger, although my uncle by marriage was. I have never met or had anything to do with the Murdochs.

Prospect does not have Oliver Letwin on its board.

My company and I have donated about £3 million pounds to various charities and causes over the last 8 years or so, mainly environmental and animal conservation charities but also including Action for Brazil’s Children Trust and the Sydney Film Festival.

I do spend time in Australia but if I were fortunate enough to win a seat (most unlikely) I would spend more time in the United Kingdom.

    Best wishes

    Peter Hall

  3. More than happy to make the changes, Peter. (BTW, which Peter J Hall are you?)

But from reading your interview with the Sydney Morning Herald we thought you only invested in ethical causes. So what you doing giving 317,000 pounds to the Tories?

Anyway, you’re into animal conservation - every thought about helping a monkey?

Any donation will be greatly accepted.

    ;)

  4. Thanks for that Alex - no worries (as they say in Australia). Yes the two Peter J Hall’s are one and the same.

Two other constituency associations that I have donated to in recent times are Glasgow East and Hale and Haltemprice - I thought David D’s campaign against Britain’s Orwellian security apparat was important.

Why do I support the Tories? Because they are the party of radical progressive change, liberty, “One Nation” and, I hope, the party that will stand up for the environment and the individual against a monolithic and failed State system.

I would have thought a monkey with the surname “Hilton” was doing ok?!

    Cheers

    Peter
