We all know Dave is desperately trying to jump on the Obama bandwagon.
But how does he feel that the man responsible for training the Conservative leaders of tomorrow has publicly joked that Obama can now dig up his recently deceased grandmother?
Donal Blaney (above) - chief executive of the Young Tory activist movement the Young Britons’ Foundation - made the unbelievably crass comment in a live blog of the US Presidential Coverage on Iain Dale’s site.
In response to a blogger called ‘Lefty’ who said, following indications that Obama was going to win,
‘Now Palins daughter doesnt have to get married,’ Blaney blogged the following:
“Lefty: you’re right, she doesn’t have to get married. And Obama can exhume his grandmother.”
You could excuse this as the rantings of an idiot if it weren’t for the fact that Blaney has strong links with senior Tories and is training Young Tories for careers in politics.
On its website, the YBF proclaims it is a “non-partisan, not-for-profit educational, research and training organisation that promotes conservatism in schools, colleges and universities. YBF identifies, trains, mentors and places philosophically sound activists in politics, academia and the media.”
Recess readers will remember that the YBF organised campaign training event with guest speakers including Tory heavyweights - former leader Iain Duncan Smith, leadership challenger David Davis and Shadow Local Government Minister Eric Pickles.
Other senior Tories on Blaney’s Young Britons’ Foundation parliamentary council include David Trimble, Cecil Parkinson, Shadow Defence Secretary Liam Fox, Bill Cash and Greg Hands.
And in 1998 Blaney was asked by then Leader William Hague to unite the Conservative Students, Young Conservatives and the Conservative Graduates into Conservative Future.
Recess wonders if Dave might want to have a word with YBF’s parliamentary panel to see if CHANGE at the top might be a good idea.

Excellent work Chunky. First of many such ‘gaffes’ no doubt. Now keep your ears open for a horrible port-swigging old fart claiming that his use of the word ‘woodpile’ was a perfectly innocent term… Seek and ye shall find.

I guess you’ve never heard of sarcasm then, Alex, in response to a fatuous comment from “Lefty”. Obama’s grandmother couldn’t be exhumed anyway: she was cremated.
What a shame. Still, why let the truth get in the way of your obsession against the likes of Guido, Iain and myself. I’m flattered you now think I’m important enough to merit the Tim Ireland/Alex Hilton treatment. Thank you. Anyone with half a brain would simply ignore me but all you ever succeed in doing is driving more traffic to my site and ensuring more and more people know who I am. You are, sir, a prized cretin.

What are you getting on your high horse for? I think the comment is rather funny. In case you hadn’t noticed, Obama isn’t Jesus.

Sorry Donal, but while that web chat was good knockabout stuff, the man’s gran had just died and that comment was out of line. You really need to take a look at yourself if you think that comes anywhere near saracasm - it’s just a nasty and bitter little sneer. You could just say the emotion of the night got to you - but guess you just ‘aint got the balls to even do that.

So Donal, was sarcasm responsible for your resurrection of that old lie about the Democrats being the party of segregation (also on Dale’s election night blog)?
Typically, none of the several posts pointing this out, were published. Doesn’t say much for the strength of your arguments, frankly.

“…the old lie about the Democrats being the party of segregation…”? Mate, buy a history book and read it, it’s no lie. And asserting it is doesn’t change the fact.

I would take your criticism of Donal more seriously if you hadn’t made similar crass comments yourself in the past, or do I need to remind you of ‘Thatcher is dead.’ etc

There is just no place for this kind of light-hearted humour in politics.

“Quite how vermin such as you can dance on the grave of someone so soon after they’ve died sickens me (and reinforces my desire to destroy people like you). I hope you endure a long painful death of your own.”
Donal Blaney, after someone pointed out Jesse Helms’ views on race.
The man’s a fat faced, red-nosed hypocrite. And as a result, fits in the Tory party excellently.

Cheers. Also worth noting his twitter feed which was last updated three days ago and says: “Blaney’s suspicious at the timing of the announcement of Obama’s granny’s death.”
So it’s not just an off-the-cuff comment as he’s trying to suggest.
