Take Your Kid to Work Day

Now I've been waiting for this day, this day all year
Downtown with mama and try out her career
We're on bus seventy-two, com'on driver
I've got a lot of important work to do
Pull up at the skyscraper and I'll see you later
Cause I just want a ride on that big elevator
Going up and down
Get out on the fiftieth floor and you can see the whole town

CHORUS: Cause it's take your kid to work
take your kid to work
take your kid to work today
I'm going all berserk
Cause I'm off to work
and I'm getting ready to play

I'm heading straight for the copying machine
Put my hand on up the glass and type three hundred seventeen
Look at all the copies I made, I'll tape them up on the wall
I'm getting some weird looks but that don't phase me at all
There's a whiteboard in the office, I add some designs
I've had three cups of cocoa but I'm still feeling fine
I'm feeling musical, so musical
So why don't you let me come sing in your cubicle

CHORUS

Wired

CHORUS: You know I'm feeling so wired
I'm so inspired, my feet are on fire
Wired, I'm scaling the walls
And I'll keep climbing higher
Nothing's gonna slow me down

Ate three bowls of those sugar squares
And do you wanna make a bet
I could carry the car to school
And not even break a sweat
I'm hypercrazytwitchyfun today

CHORUS

Take me out for some dinner
I'm one step in front of you
A scoop or two of ice cream
Wash it down with Tiramisu
I'll be hanging from the bunkbeds til half past ten

CHORUS

Now it's not just not kids that sneak Halloween candy
The grown ups do too, so watch your moms and daddies
They snatch chocolate chips when they think no one's looking
And their coffee drinks, those things will get you cooking-yeah!

CHORUS

Braces

Some kids they are afraid of the dentist, well I wasn't, no I wasn't
Til' the last time my mama brought me in
Then I knew that I had gone, gone and done it, yes I done it
They kept talking and talking bout' the state my teeth were in
Made me bite, said it ain't right.
So they're planning some construction in six to eight weeks
How will I ever, ever survive?

CHORUS: Braces, braces, one trip to the orthodontist and it's off to the races!
Gettin' braces, braces… How will I ever, ever survive?

They say my mouth is all bent and crooked, bent and crooked,
That my jaw is like a door that ain't quite hangin in its' frame
So they're gonna test my meddle with some metal, heavy metaL
Gonna make things in my mouth all line up-well that's the aim
My pearly whites are filled with fright,
cause they're starting some construction in just four more weeks
How will I ever, ever survive?

CHORUS

Dad saw another kid once with some braces
so he asked her, do you like them
You must like them, you've got colors in your wires
She looked at him real straight and gave an answer, what an answer
"I hate them," she said and I ain't tellin you lies
What a plight, it's fight or flight,
'cause they're starting some construction in just one more week
How will I ever, ever survive? Yeah!

CHORUS

Car Wash

CHORUS (Mama won't you take me down to the car wash…)

We parked it under a tree
And those birds came home early
It came so naturally
Now the car's a little dirty
All the neighbor kids
Wrote their names on the dirty windows
So what if we did
Head on down to the car show

CHORUS

You pull into the lane
Keep the key in the ignition
And roll the windows up
As you enter the position
Just a bit to the right
Keep the gearbox in neutral
Sit back and you'll find
That this trip will be fruitful

(Mouth Jam:
WASHA WASHA
SCRUBBY SCRUB
RINSE IT OFF NOW
PROTECT IT!)

(RAP) Now let me tell you somethin if you're feelin green
There ain't no better place to go to get your hoopdy clean
Just put your car in line and you'll see what I mean
In three minutes you will have a shiny sheen

Now when you're in the tunnel you might feel alone
Ain't nobody around and you're all covered in foam
Suddenly you're in the light and almost time to head home
And then he wipes on off your mirror and you're on your own

Now everybody say wax on [WAX ON]
And everybody say wax off [WAX OFF]
Now wouldn't you say that we had [WE HAD]
A lot of fun tryin to get the dirt off [THE DIRT OFF]

CHORUS

Grandpa is a Time Machine

CHORUS: My Grandpa, oh yeah my Grandpa,
my Grandpa, Grandpa's a time machine
My Grandpa, my good ol' Grandpa,
my Grandpa tells me how it used to be

All he needs is a big glass of iced tea
and plop him right down in his favorite chair
Just like that you're traveling through history
with his stories from yesteryear

CHORUS

When he was my age he had his own paper route
and TV was in black and white
He and his brothers slept three in a bunk
and the money was always tight
Tells my neighborhood was a farm,
that you could look out for miles and miles
Shows me the big scar on his arm
but when I ask him about it-he just smiles

CHORUS

He climbed uphill to school and back home
through the rain, the sleet and snow
Played stickball in the street until dark
and fell asleep to the sounds of the radio

WILLIE MAYS HITS A HOME RUN!

Oh My Grandpa, oh yeah my grandpa,
my grandpa, grandpa's a time machine
My Grandpa, my good ol' grandpa,
my grandpa tells me how it used to be
My grandpa tells me how it used to be
When we're sitting out on the porch, sipping tea

Wishing Well

I threw a penny in the wishing well
A secret, i can't tell
There's a dream hidden deep inside of a
Little penny down in a wishing well

Where it goes, no one knows, it's mystery

I crossed my fingers and I crossed my toes
Wiggled my nose
For a wish that I'm wishing
I crossed my fingers and I crossed my toes

Where it goes, no one knows, it's mystery

I put some fairy dust inside a jar
It fell from a star
All my hopes swimming side by side
With fairy dust inside of a little jar

Will it grow, no one knows
But I'm dreaming
And wishing
And hoping
On a mystery

Brick by Brick

CHORUS: Let it rain all day. I wouldn't have it any other, any other way
Brick by brick by brick by brick by brick by
Let it rain all day. I wouldn't have it any other, any other way
Brick by brick by brick by brick by brick by

Let the building start. We'll create some Lego art… If I can find the part
I've been looking for...
It's hidden somewhere on the floor...
Or in this drawer
I might spend the day creating my own constructions
My brother likes the kits where you can follow all the instructions

CHORUS

Don't walk in bare feet cause' those blocks are littered around
Find a piece of green ground, sit down and build up a town
We made a castle once that reached above our big bookshelf
That giant spaceship there, I designed it all by myself

CHORUS

Now I'm searching and I'm looking
and need to find that one figurine yeah
Has anybody, anyone I mean
somebody's got to have seen yeah
Now I'm searching and I'm looking
and I need to find that one figurine yeah
Has anybody, anyone I mean
somebody's got to have seen yeah

CHORUS

The Great Diorama

Each spring the shoe-boxes are lined up with pride
Great moments of history depicted inside
In third grade, they are hand-made, and then displayed
It's the year of the great diorama

Kate Anderson was in Ms. Robinson's class
She hardly could wait to receive her big task
Cause' they'd be studying the journey of Lewis and Clark
Now to make a big scene in paint, playdough and bark
Get your supplies, 'cause time flies and all eyes
Will be on your shoebox diorama

Diorama, one small box, one big drama
And the night filled with trauma
For the grownups who get covered in glue
Cause they try but they can't keep their hands off
their kid's diorama

Kate ran all the way home, excited to start
To learn all she that could, make a great work of art

She had grand plans for her two hands, worked til night's end
On her Lewis and Clark diorama

Kate's popsicle stick keel boat looked pretty neat
But her mom thought it felt a little incomplete
So while Kate was in her bed just a snoozing away
Her mom got to work without any delay
Tried to reach for more hot glue, she bumped into the box too
And down tumbled Kate's diorama

Diorama, one small box, one big drama
And the nights filled with trauma
For the grownups who get covered in glue
Cause they try but they can't keep their hands
off their kid's diorama

I'm carrying stuff to the curb,
I don't know if you have heard
Posters up all around, great bargains abound,
come on down to our garage sale

CHORUS: Our Garage Sale,
all our junk neatly displayed outside for you
Our Garage Sale, find a treasure for only a buck or two
How do you do?

Ma scoured each room in the house,

Some gilded picture frames and a bunch of board games,

It's like Antiques Road Show

Com'on down!

Duct Tape World

We had a little problem
Tried to buy one dozen, ended up with a million and two
We knew our mistake when
the semi truck dropped them off all brand new

We had a mountain of duct tape
Filled the kitchen and the bedrooms
and even the playroom too
That's exactly when I we knew that
we were moving into

CHORUS: A duct tape world, How will we ever get through?
A duct tape world, This stuff is ruining our view!

So I set up a table
On the sidewalk with a sign said
"I'm on a roll with you"
I'll make you any creation
Yeah I can make you a bracelet
A handbag or a wallet,
or even flip flops too
A duct tape suit of armor
would help this duct tape all be used

Suddenly she appeared there
With a duct tape hairbow,
she even had matching shoes
She glanced toward my house
and she smiled slightly askew

Hey that's a duct tape world!
She said "I could be taper with you"
Cause I'm a duct tape girl,
and we'll stick together like glue

It might seem improbable
for any boy or girl
But wouldn't it be wonderful
to make a duct tape world?

We made a duct tape world...

...a duct tape petting zoo
...a pirate ship with a duct tape crew
...unbreakable Christmas ornaments too
...a duct tape turkey for you
...permanent mummy bandages too
...a duct tape dancing tutu

Shutterbug

I know a girl who's always taking Dad's phone
She can't leave that thing alone
Open up the camera and off she will roam
Taking pictures with that phone
Points and clicks at her hand three dozen times
There's six photos for every random thing she finds

CHORUS: 'Cause she's a shutterbug x3
She's coming in for a close up, get ready to smile

I know a lady taking photos at school
When it's your turn atop that stool
She moves your chin up and down, shoves you feet, wipes your drool
Taking portraits at your school
Try not to breathe as you look into her lens
She'll send you wallet-sized mementos and an 8 by 10

CHORUS

Ooh… I'm gonna send you, my new school photo
You'll see me leaning on a big old log
It's really two shots stitched together
Cause my profile is hanging above me
In some strange photographic fog

I know guy who loves taking selfies
Points at himself and whispers, "cheese"
Takes a self-portrait when he pleases
Shooting hundreds of selfies
Poses with his meals,
And just standing on a street
He takes so many photographs
And never skips a beat

CHORUS

Skee Ball

It takes strategy
You do it patiently
You roll them up one by one
and you're playing some Skee ball
And you do it again

Drop in a quarter
And listen to them roll
Ya gotta toss them up there one by one
and you're playin some Skee ball
And you'll do it again

You may have wondered
Why you went for a hundred
When the ball just rolled on down to the ten
Well you're gonna have to try it again
When we're playing some skeeball

It takes aim you know
When you do your throw
You gotta roll it all the way to the end
and you're launchin' your Skee ball
And it lands in the cup

The tickets come right out
That's what it's all about
Don't rip 'em off til you're done
playin that Skee Ball
Count 'em one by one

And then you go to the counter
And look for the amount
Of skee ball tickets that you have won
Then you trade 'em in for something fun
And you're done
Playing some skeeball

Lazy Susan

They call her "lazy" but she swears she's not,
She doesn't give their criticisms thought no-oh
She'd just rather, not stand, when her mom asks for a hand
She's clearing up the dishes with a plan
Built a conveyor belt right to the sink,
So when she's done with her dinner and drink oh oh
She can shout a "red rover" and send her cup right over and watch it slip away as she just sits

CHORUS: Each every day (each every day)
she thinks up new and clever ways
To get things done while sitting on her buns
To get things done,
it takes a lot of brains is what she says

They call her "lazy" but she swears she's not,
she doesn't give their criticisms thought
She'd just rather spend her hours saving all her power
and sitting cozy in her favorite spot
To get to school is really far you know,
she used to walk but it was way too slow oh oh So she took good notes while at the airport with her folks
and built a moving sidewalk from her home

Each every day (each every day)
she thinks up new and clever ways
To get things done while sitting on her buns
To get things done,
it takes a lot of brains is what she says

She's not so lazy...

Her sketchbook is a maze of blueprints, words and crazy doodles
Like the walk-a-matic robo-leash she drew for her French poodle
There's a suds-a-matic, electro-static laundry rub-a-dubber
And the backpack jet pack homework helper made just for her brother
There's a whoozit, a whatzit, and a ballywhomperloo too
But she's not exactly sure just what these zany things can do-ooh... no
They call her lazy but she swears she's not
she doesn't give their criticisms thought no-oh
She'll be sketching away, while other kids are out at play
and her solar-powered vacuum cleans her room

CHORUS

Batteries Not Included

I just got the greatest toy in the world
It transforms, lights up and spins
But it's grounded for now... cause batteries aren't included.

CHORUS: Batteries not included, batteries not included
This day will be diluted if I can't play with my toy
Batteries not included, I need twelve double a's
Oh please, help me!

I search inside the playroom, dig into a bunch of bins and can't find any batteries
But I get building yes I do, and after bout' an hour or two
I'm surrounded by massive playroom fortress
But I still can't play with the greatest new toy

CHORUS

Aha! Maybe I'll find some in the TV remotes, but they're all as dead as dead can be
So I get reading yes I do, and after bout' an hour or two
I'm deep inside a world of ancient castles
But I still can't play with the greatest new toy

Cause the batteries aren't included
and my energy for this search's running low
Still I think I know where I can go

To the garage, Dad's got a big bin of some random stuff, I look and find a dozen batteries
But then I see my good old bike, I dust it off and take a hike
I'm pedaling down the street to see my best pal
And I can't remember where I put that toy

With the batteries not included, the batteries not included
This day was pretty suited for finding some fun stuff to do
Batteries not included, you can keep that double a
I'm headed out to play!

Off The Grid

On the night all the lights went out
I felt a bit scared
Thought I was all alone
For a minute there

We played games by some candlelight
That glowed so true
We were huddled up so close
Like they used to do

Tell us one more story please
Can we, oh, sing one more

Tell us one more story please
Can we, oh, sing one more

On the night all the lights went out
You took us outside
Our neighborhood was dark
But all the stars in the sky
Were so alive
